SB live or Philips

I am getting a sound card and want to know the best for me. I am getting a SB live platinum, a Sb live x-gamer or a philips acustic edge. I need something for dolby digital speakers to watch dvds and for games. Compatibility with media is very important.

Go with philips quality wise it sounds better to me then a sb live, especially if you want nice 3d surround sound in gaming. My sb live has been shelfed for good.

I would say go with SoundBlaster Live! XGammer 5.1 or the platinum 5.1! They are basicaly the same sound card except that you get some extra stuff with the Platinum 5.1 The XGammer costs around $100 and the Platinum Cost around $200! I you are going to be playing a lot of games and watching DVD's the you will want one if the Soundblaster card that has 5.1 at the end! THe have digital out on the card!

All the SB Live card are the exact same, it is the software that is differant, at least i am pretty sure on this, correct me if I am wrong. I have used the SB cards and they sound sweet, I have never used a the Phillips, but it has gotten good reviews and is cheap.

Get the Acoustic Edge. Better sound than the SBLive. I know from experience. Do a search for Acoustic Edge and you will see all the people that have switched.

Does it have dolby digital out though? And is it as compatible as the creative labs?

the difference with the platnum is the live drive and extra software, specifically the planum has all the software that the xgamer and the mp3+ versions have

X-Gamer is the same Sound card as the Platinum. The platinum comes bundled with a live drive, but the actual card is no different.

The Philips AE is the best sound card on the market in my opinion. From everything I've heard it has great drivers in Win2000, and I've used my friends in Win98, very versatile, excellent quality, it will do everything the platinum can do and then some for 1/2 the price. Unless you absolute need optical out for some reason I can't see any reason to buy any card other than the AE (the AE has full digital I/O, just in RCA format, not Optical).

Will the live drive work with the phillips. I know you can buy them seperate than the card, so will it work witht he phillips or does it need a special connection that only the SB cards have.
