I'm having issues and can't figure out what is wrong. I can set my cpu to 44 multi, voltage at 1.3, but in cpuid 1.56 it shows my voltage as being at 1.056 volts. The computer seems to take longer to boot up also than at stock speeds, but I have no errors in my windows logs and it benchmarks faster than anything else I've owned.

If I go away for an hour and it goes to sleep, when I come back, it will be at 3.4 ghz and it takes a reboot for it to come back up to 4.4v. I have a P67A-UD3 board but am following this guide as the bios is identical. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/07/how-to-overclock-the-intel-core-i5-2500k/4

What am I doing wrong? I just changed my power settings in windows so it wont put my desktop to sleep -- only black out the display-- so maybe thats all it took.

Think I found my stable setup that ill run 24/7. I have speedstep disabled but I have C1E and the other c states enabled. Set up this way it stays underclocked and undervolted when idle and the second its under any load it goes to the maximum clock.

*snip*

Did you make any voltage changes to the BIOS or just leave it in auto? When I left mine on auto and was running it at just 40x the voltage went as high as 1.38 when I went full load. I did not play with the offset in the tuning tool at all but that seems like it might be something for me to look at. As it is my voltage stays at 1.28 when idle (my settings in bios) but jumps as high as 1.295 under full load.

In my bios my voltage is just set at offset. This opens another option to change the offset which i did after trial and error to -.02.(I'm not really sure where its getting the voltage to offset from) As it is now at idle my cpu stays at 1600mhz and ~1v.

Got up to 4.6 stable this morning using some more specific settings from bit-tech, plus my own little concoctions. Temps are high, however, nearly 70c on one core at load in Small FFT.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/07/how-to-overclock-the-intel-core-i5-2500k/4

Load line: enabled
CPU Vcore: 1.325v
QPI: 1.12v
Sys Agent: 1.135v (very high compared to stock, but I think this is the key)

Didn't have too much time to mess with it, but considering I couldn't touch prime Small FFT with anything past 4.4 previously (save when I applied 1.4+ vcore), it's a nice breakthrough at 1.325v. I am concerned regarding the temps; at 4.4, I was maxing out at 60 on one core, now I'm maxing out at 69c on one core with the rest in the mid 60s.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to bring it down little by little, see what I can do with it. It's definitely high. Considering it took me 1.45v just to get 4.6 previously, and even then I saw some regular usage instability - I'm gonna have to decide if these high volts are worth it. I can't seem to help myself. I think my beef is that I felt my i7 920 was snappier, even at 3.8. Certainly it was more stable, even if the temps went up to high 70s at load. SB is nice, but it was a side grade from the X58 platform, especially since I SLI.

eyes blurry, brain reeling...

so the take away on these things is that you get the k, get solid 1333 memory, and just push the multi now? all anyone is pushing is the vid?

ok, see anand review of asrock board... boy, they sure underestimated demand on this release...

I've gone as high as 4.4 stably, but I'm getting temps in the 70s at that clock speed. It's probably because I have the system in an HTPC case with only 3 tiny fans to provide airflow. I did notice that I got an immediate 7-8 degree drop if I ran without the case cover on.

Rock solid stability is pretty important to me for an HTPC build though, so I set a slight (-0.0020) negative voltage offset and settled for 4ghz as a 24/7 configuration. Temps still get as high as mid-60s, but I can live with that if it's not unusually high for this clock speed/voltage. Do those temps sound particularly high anyone?

Ehhh...well, I run 4.4 at around 60c max on the "bad" core, which runs really hot. So 53-60c between all four cores at max, but in a full ATX case with a Prolimatech Mega, airflow, etc. I suppose with the cover on, that's fine. Have you thought about a Scythe Shuriken? It's really done an excellent job on my itx rig. Keeps my i3 at 32c or so.

4.8 game stable. 4.6 Prime stable. Both put max temps right around 70c with a Hyper 212+ with two fans. Have it running at 4.6 until the newness wears off. The 200mhz difference didn't seem to make a discernible difference in BlackOps, BC2, Civ IV, or F1 2010 . Picked up 5-10 fps in these games which took them from around 30 to 40+ minimum FPS moving from a Q9550. I'm happy I made the leap. Maybe the 6870 video card is bottlenecking me.

4.8:
1.35 vcore
Extreme LLC

4.6
1.3 vcore
Auto LLC

2500k, haven't found the upper limit yet. CPUZ reports incorrect voltage for this mobo. Voltage is set at 1.310 in the bios but EasyTune6 reports 1.248-1.260. My temps seem abnormally low also.

69 really isn't that hot. I wouldn't worry about it.

I thought 1.56.2 showed the correct vcore? Isn't this just your idle vcore? Or does it never get higher? And please use RealTemp for temperature measurement.

It never goes higher. As you can see, I'm under full load at the time with all 4 cores maxxed and its still showing a low vcore. Compared to easytune at the same time, easytune reports 1.26ish.

Ok, i heard 1.56.2 showed correct values for Gigabyte mobo's but apparently not...did you update the bios as well?

axon, any problems getting the board up and running?

My 2600k is doing 4.4 GHz at 1.3 V on an Asus P8P67 Pro. I had to set LLC to high (50%) to get it completely stable. It doesn't completely eliminate vdroop, but it can maintain a load voltage of 1.28 V. I usually hesitate to use LLC because of the theoretical risks, but I really wanted to get at least 4.4 GHz. I definitely have no intention of going over 1.3 V.

Got my SB setup today.
Gigabye UD3, 8GB DDR3 1600, 2500K.
Set it to 42x in the BIOS after installing it and nothing else and it's running great!
Also updated to the BIOS using @BIOS. (You have to download the newest version of the @BIOS program or it won't work.)
