Looks to be a pretty good board unless you are going for a max overclock. It has a decently sized heatsink over the VRMs and 4 fan headers (2 PWM, 2 3-pin) to let you plug in as many fans as you want. All of the motherboard fan headers can be temperature-controlled if you want a quiet system.

Yeah I never go for max oc's hell I'd be happy with 4.0. HMM

I'm doing 4.2 @ 1.272v right now and just passed 8 hours and 40 minutes of Prime95 without any issues. I'd say this board should be able to take it up to 4.6 with a tad bit more voltage.

Bloomfield/Lynnfield was also designed for 1.5V but plenty of people run 1.65V mem.

They also had 45nm memory controllers which I would assume are much more tolerant of voltage adventures than 32nm circuits. I still think 1.65V is safe, but would be the ultimate maximum.

You have better luck than me then.

When I bought my i5-2500k, the website said it was in stock. Now it says I have to wait until the 15th (+2-3 days for delivery) :'(

Thanks. So 4.5 at 1.3v sounds very possible. I'll be very happy with that.

Really depends on the chip and cooling. Clarkdale was good up to 1.4v. I will use the same 1.4v limit with my 2600K. It might be time to break out a TEC loop

Core Voltage - Not recommended too exceed 1.38v, doing so could kill the CPU, we therefor recommend a range of 1.325-1.350v if overclocking.

Thanks for the heads up richierich1212!! Looks like it's right inline with Core i7-980X at 1.375V maximum. Aigo mentioned this 1.350-1.375V range a while back. Looks like those 4.8-5.0ghz overclocks are not going to happen then.

You win that at the XS party?

yup.

it was handed to me at the end of the party as peter (shimano) broke the world record on single gpu.

Can someone throw a Retail 2500K or 2600K on a kilowatt meter and track down how much voltage its pulling though the wall?
I want to see if the temps are greater then the ES samples we saw, or if it was a finer tuned and calibrated sensor that was updated.

I will later this week when mine comes in. But at overclock. It won't see stock

Zalman CNPS9500A. Not a super cooler, but better than stock. Its the same one I had on my i5 750.

I have that cooler's bigger bro, but on a Q9550. If ordered the first gen Core-i brackjets could I use it on a 2500k?

Memory Voltage - Intel recommend 1.50v plus/minus 5% which means upto 1.58v is the safe recommended limit. In our testing we have found 1.65v has caused no issues.

They actually say the same thing for Nehalem/Westmere: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-029913.htm

What are the Intel® Core™ i7 processor and the Intel® Core™ i5 processor DDR3 memory voltage limitations?
Intel® recommends using memory that adheres to the Jedec memory specification for DDR3 memory which is 1.5 volts, plus or minus 5%. Anything over this voltage can either damage the processor or significantly reduce the processor life span.

1.65V should be fine, but above that is dangerous.

did you run it on your system?
I get 8,767 on my I7 950 at 4.2 just to compare?

Yeah if people aren't careful from here on out, we'll be getting reports of dead processors within a week or two.

Not from me, I can't believe what people are jacking through these things already. C'mon! It's a new process! The old rules don't apply!

Funny thing is it's basically just a multiplier tweak. Just like the good ol' Athlon X2 days.

Will I be able to get a 2500k to run at 4.0GHz with a nice temp with the stock cooler?

Check out Anand's review, he seems to think it's totally doable. I have an aftermarket HSF for it myself. Can't wait to get this thing up and running (budget requires a minor delay).
