MSI, gigabyte, etc... you know asus = ASrock right?

Maybe that why I am having so many problems ?

OK, so back to 4.4, thats the best she can do, and needs 1.35 vcore. Immediate reboot at 1.325 and full load OCCT, bang. 21.35, its OK (so far)

And I got this setup to not spend a fortune. If I got another AX850 PSU, and the board you got thats another $550, which is all I spent total on this.

2 x 4400 would get me more points than 1 x 5 ghz !

So my Vcore as logged by HWmonitor is 1.41 max and I think that's high (most people do). It normally sits at 1.35 in load but can spike up, and at idle its 0.928 or something. But, I went to my BIOS and switched my Vcore from Auto to 1.35. The problem with this is that I would still like it to lower to sub-1V when idle.

Is there a way to allow it to lower but force it to a 1.35 max?

I think 4.4 GHz would be just dandy. More? Bonus time. We get so greedy around here... My build commences next week

got a 2600k chip last night and was running it on a stock cooler. Picked up a cheapo cooler till i get the noctua d14 to do some overclocking. Intel cooler was junk and i could only run at 4.1 or 4.2ghz stock and would get like 75 degree temps. The new cooler gave me like 15-20 degree drop. I can clock to 4.8 on 1.366v and stable no issues and temps are 72 degree under load. Right now i am experimenting and running at 45x and 100 blck and 1.272v stable no issues. I am not going to go over 1.4v for now and do not want to attempt 5.0ghz till i get a high end air cooler. Not going to be messing around with watercooling since air cooling works just fine. I am happy at 4.5 and nice to see it can hit 4.8ghz and stay under 1.4. Using ddr3 ram 1600mhz @ 1.65v but running it at 1.60v. Any questions let me know and i can answer them. I have not ran a vantage with the new cooler which is a Thermaltake Contac 29 (Yes i know junk but better than stock) but here is some benches from last night.

sorry about that i will update and here is a new bench at 4.8ghz. Let me know i am worried since temps are little high at 80 degrees max. I have a 920xm in my m17x and i can take the temps high and tjmax is 100 degrees at which point it throttles but i have it usually around 85 degrees. What is a safe temp for sandy bridge. I am not an insane bleeding edge overclocker just like to get my feet wet and gain some experience.

let me know what else i can help with and any information to help me overclock smarter

Edit: Sorry about pics just changed hosting to imageshack. Also the scores for CPU are with physx turned off since that really boost the scores

long thread, id like to knpw if there is any noticeable performance decrease if any when running single channel, im considering to get one 4gb stick and get anpther in the future for my 2500k+p8p67

Nope, go ahead, it be fine

My IV's shipped bios was terrible. Upgrading to the newest beta cured it.

Noted the bios still is somewhat messy.
in regard, my gigabyte x58 took a year to get a good bios.

What's a safe max temp? I'm getting mid 70s under my current overclock. That's about the same as my Q6600 but perhaps the 2500k is more fragile.

BTW, I have a weird thing where Windows 7 thinks I'm at 5.8Ghz....I'm only at 4.3 so not sure what that's about.

Just realize when OC'ing with voltage past 1.38V you start to impact the life of your CPU. Looks like you have one hell of a chip tho good luck.

looks like you got a excellent chip, 4,5ghz@1.272 looks very promising. I have a feeling you will hit 4,8 with 1,4v which puts this chip at the upper 20-30% of the crop. nice one. let us know how it goes with a D14, oc and temp wise I'm curious.

Whoa whoa, back the train up there... direct contact heatsinks require a different TIM application? Where can I find the proper instructions? I didn't know they were different...

This may explain why my e8400 gets up into the upper 60's/low 70's with my CM Hyper TX2 as it's a direct heat pipe and I did not change the way I apply the TIM. My A70 thats waiting for the 2500k to arrive tomorrow is also a direct contact so I'm glad I saw this.

Hyper TX2 is not a HDT cooler, the heatpipes go into a base, and it's the flat base that contacts the CPU.

HDT coolers have the heatpipes themselves directly contact the CPU. There is usually a supporting base that is flush with the heatpipes. Applied TIM squeezes into the cracks between the heatpipes.

Proper application of TIM (how I did it for my OCZ Vendetta) for HDT heatpipe involves either filling the cracks before you apply a spot of TIM to the base, or better yet, one dab of TIM on each heatpipe.

I am not sure if you have done this: enable internal pll overvoltage in EFI.

I thought overclocking SB was supposed to be easy? I'm having weird problems as well.

Basically my pc doesn't shut down correctly. Windows shuts off but the lights are still on but nobody is home. Fans are humming, everything seems to be running. So I have to manually cut power and when I restart it says the overclock failed and takes me to the bios. But what's weird is that this thing is stable under prime and games so I'm not sure why it fails shutting down.
