Not necessarily true. While for most intents and purposes my i5 750 @ 3.65GHz is more than adequate for my uses, it does struggle at times with SC2 and sub 30fps minimum framerates. It's the only game where I wish I had a faster CPU. Yes I can overclock my CPU to 4GHz+ but I like my CPUs running efficiently, as it can get pretty hot during the Aussie summer.
Retail samples of SB (they are for sale already in certain countries) have been overclocking to ~4.5GHz at stock volts, and 4.7 - 4.8GHz with mild voltage bumps. They are also much more power efficient than current i5/i7s so thats another plus.
In CPU bound games such as SC2 the extra clockspeed + IPC boost would make a huge improvement:

If I can get a good deal for my i5 750 + Gigabyte P55 UD3 I'd sell it in a heartbeat and swap over to SB. Apart from the obvious benefits already listed I can also (hopefully) upgrade to Ivy Bridge in 2012, unless Intel pulls another VRM stunt of course...
New cpu, new platform, new mobo...I'll be waiting a while to let the early adopters locate and debug issues.
I make it a rule to never buy the first retail stepping of a new CPU. B3 Kenstfield, ugh, G0 was better AND silly cheaper some 6 months later.
If ram price is something that bothers you a lot, enough to prevent a new build then buy ram now and wait on other pieces later.
Spouse factor. Purchase becomes possible when/if I invent a plausible justification. Training pitiable phrases already.
i7 920, x58 Asus mobo, 6gb Super Talent ram, HD 4890OC... what's the point of SB for me? I don't think that most need to upgrade from Q6600 unless they are just upgrade junkies. It will be fun watching this stuff play out, including Bulldozer. Enjoy your SB upgrade guys!

Join the club . Although now i've had my PC for 3 years i don't care what she says. It's upgrade time!
Hah. I do the same thing - I just buy it. She grumbles, but make no mistake, she didn't ask if she could buy any of the 40 pairs of shoes on the floor that she never cleans up. Too bad, so sad.
