2600K on water coming up.

Replacing the rig in sig.

The only thing in the air is the storage system.

STILL no one seems to have TRIM working over RAID

Married Computer Geeks...UNITE (that includes me)!!!!

You married guys are cracking me up...only because I'm right there with you!

Personally, I'm quite happy with my current setup and won't be upgrading much of anything in 2011. 2010 has been expensive enough and I just want to sit back and enjoy what I have currently for awhile.

I have a box of parts for a new build waiting on a proc. I will be in line at MC on the AM of whatever day the chip is announced for retail sale.

Best regards,
-boggsie

Does MC usually have chips available when their first launched?

Yes, MC usually does. I know with the 1090t they had them in the back waiting to be placed on the floor. Sometimes a day or two goes by before they have a pimp CPU deal, however.

New cpu, new platform, new mobo...I'll be waiting a while to let the early adopters locate and debug issues.

I make it a rule to never buy the first retail stepping of a new CPU. B3 Kenstfield, ugh, G0 was better AND silly cheaper some 6 months later.

Still rocking the i7 920 C0 with the initial run X58 board here. That doesn't guarantee anything, but Intel has been really solid with recent HW releases. Plus, it's always fun to play with a new chipset/cpu (assuming you can afford to have a little downtime).

That said, a lot of i7 users will probably wait for the enthusiast 2011 socket or ivy bridge. I agree with some of the other posters here that SB will be very attractive for existing 775 or AM2/3 users.

I'm excited as well, but not because I'm going to buy SB haha.

I want to see how good it is to see how it forced AMD to adjust. BD isn't coming till later next year. I can wait till the middle of next year, and if it forces AMD to be aggressive to the point that it has to keep selling processors at a loss just to match price/pref, it means I can get a great deal on an AMD system.

Performance is important, but I honestly feel any mid range performing system is enough for what I do. I'm still doing fine on a X2 6000+ with 4 gigs of ram and a 8800gt (although I might upgrade that to a gtx460 depending on if i can score one for about 120), and will be willing to jump up to either AMD/Intel depending on the BD launch and price/performance comparisons between the different platforms.

My pc in sig died last week. While it's a major annoyance, thank goodness for my 9 year old Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop!, I'm waiting until "SandyBridge Day" aka Jan. 9th.

p.s.
Yeah, I kind of take my time upgrading. As a married guy with a 4-year old daughter the min pc requirement for Plants vs. Zombies and webkinz is easily met.

Haha, tell me about it. Though my wife is somewhat understanding. She gave me the go ahead to order some ram the other day and then I had to explain to her my planned upgrades for this next year. She seemed ok with it, but we will see when I get ready to pull the trigger on SB or Bulldozer. Checks and balances I guess!

I'm waiting for my tax return in February, but yes. I like to skip generations, so am going to go from Q9950 to the 2500k, adding an SSD, 8 gigs of DDR3 (which I already have thanks to Black Friday), and possibly get a 5870 for some 5970+5870 Tri-Fire action.

Unlike most here, I've already decided that I'm going Bulldozer. Performance or not. Buying a new board everytime intel sneezes is getting old. At least with AMD, I'll have a better chance of the AM3+ board lasting a few chip cycles

So let's see...thread entitled "SB Roll Call"
Intel is a big meanie
AMD RULES GO RED WOO
BD is out when, 2030?

Without the unneccessary fanboyism, this post wouldn't have looked so ridiculous. Come on.

Don't really understand the logic. If BD is two years behind in performance why is upgrading a CPU important. Upgrade in two years and spend more money to get the performance you could get today. If BD is competitive now then it makes sense, if not then I would just as soon pay up front and enjoy the warm fuzzies. That's just me, though.
