The faster "pro" service is also down to $24.99 per month. There is a $200 cancellation fee, but at $15 per month, your entire year's service is under $200, so it doesn't really matter.

SBC is a good company, both my parents work for them. Not to say that I'm biased, but I'm in Philadelphia right now and I've had Comcast and Verizon and they're such a friggin' hassle. I can't get SBC out here, so I'm pretty much stuck.

SBC is NOT a good company. They take forever to set up DSL and service it, and their $200 cancellation fee is ridiculous. Why would I subscribe to SBC when I can get RoadRunner which is faster, cheaper after the 6 months, and has NO CONTRACT and fast service?

SBC has been stellar for me. I get exceptional speed, honest & correct billing, and I've had 2 minor outages in the last 3 years. That's way different from what I experienced with cable.

BTW, way to thread cr@p.

If cable is truyly cheaper for you then go for it. Cable is $30/month more than DSL here so why would I even consider it? The speed difference is negligible for my purposes and the service has been much more reliable than my cable service ever was. -- different strokes for different folks.

I can't believe this, they just dropped their prices back in Feb/April. I had called in then to get my Pro service lowered and thus having my new contract start from that point on.

I really wonder if they'll let existing customers call in and get the yet even cheaper price.

If it's like the last time they dropped rates, existing customers will be able to get the rate in a week or so if they agree to extend for another year. I have the pro-level service and as much as I want to hate SBC, this connection is rock solid.

Anyone know the absolute cheapest I can get a phoneline for? I don't have a home line now so I can't get DSL from them, but if I could get a line for less than $10 a month, it may still be worth it.

Even if you're poor enough to qualify for benefits, I think the lowest priced phone line is $30-something after taxes and fees.

Yes there are ads for $20-somehting alternatives but they all end up being $30-something after taxes and fees.

EDIT: $12.95 Metered landline. Only 20 Phone calls per month though.

This is mad HOT. Maybe cable companies will start following suit and lower prices as well. I have SBC and no problems so far. I can only get 384KB up and down because I am at the limit for service but it is fine for most everything I do. My cable company wants $6000 to run their lines 1500 feet down the road to my house. I told them where to go.

Can you afford not to have DSL now ?

Are there any restrictions as to the level of phone service you must have to get this? I currently have SBC but my 1 year promo expired (was $25/month). I'd like to try and get them to switch me to this plan, but not if it means I have to have their long distance, or super-mega-everything included local plan for $50/month. As best I can tell from their site, the only requirement is an SBC local line....

Thanks,
-Brett.

As far as I can tell there are no restrictions. Just SBC local service.

In Northern CA, basic service is $10 but you get charged an extra $7 or so for taxes. So it comes out to be about $17-18 a month.
