I've had SBC DSL for several years and haven't had any problems with them. When I signed up for DSL with them years ago, I got a static IP address for $49,00/month (I don't recall the speeds).
When SBC took over Pacific Bell telephone in my area, SBC upgraded my DSL service to the Pro package (1.5 down/384 up) for the same rate of $49/mo. I have a different long distance carrier. Last year, I called SBC and told them I was shopping around for DSL service and asked for a better rate to stay with them. I got the Pro DSL package with the static IP for $35/month (approximately).
Earlier this month I received mail from SBC stating that my special DSL rate was up for renewal and if I didn't renew within 30 days, that my rate would revert back to the $59.99/mo. rate. I was willing to renew for $35/mo. but I wanted to get a new DSL modem for free as my old DSL modem was about 5 years old. I called the SBC DSL renewal department and told them of the letter from SBC regarding my special rate and that I'd been shopping other companies for rates. The rep immediately offered me $29.99/mo for my Static IP Pro package - based on a one-year commitment. I said I'd do it, but that I needed a new modem for free. I got it without any problem.
I just renewed my SBC DSLservice for $29.95/month for a year, got a new DSL modem for free and got to keep my static IP. I've checked my download and upload speeds regularly on
http://www.dslreports.com/tools, and I'm happy to say that my download and upload speeds have always been higher than the 1.5/384 service I'm paying for. I'm very satisfied with SBC DSL.
