SBC is a good company, both my parents work for them. Not to say that I'm biased, but I'm in Philadelphia right now and I've had Comcast and Verizon and they're such a friggin' hassle. I can't get SBC out here, so I'm pretty much stuck.

If not, I will be cancelling the DSL.

SBC is NOT a good company. They take forever to set up DSL and service it, and their $200 cancellation fee is ridiculous. Why would I subscribe to SBC when I can get RoadRunner which is faster, cheaper after the 6 months, and has NO CONTRACT and fast service?
If cable is truyly cheaper for you then go for it. Cable is $30/month more than DSL here so why would I even consider it? The speed difference is negligible for my purposes and the service has been much more reliable than my cable service ever was. -- different strokes for different folks.Originally posted by: mercanucaribe

Are there any restrictions as to the level of phone service you must have to get this? I currently have SBC but my 1 year promo expired (was $25/month). I'd like to try and get them to switch me to this plan, but not if it means I have to have their long distance, or super-mega-everything included local plan for $50/month. As best I can tell from their site, the only requirement is an SBC local line....
Thanks,
-Brett.

Even if you're poor enough to qualify for benefits, I think the lowest priced phone line is $30-something after taxes and fees.
Yes there are ads for $20-somehting alternatives but they all end up being $30-something after taxes and fees.

Plain service in the Bayarea is around 19.00.
