read my crap-on-SBC post above.

If that is true you should report it to your state's Attorney General and office of Consumer Affairs

They do mention in their TV ad that you get that price only when you sign up with their Unlimited Local and long distance plan. I forget what they call that plan, Total Distance or something like that. But they do mention it right under the largely printed price on the TV ad.

Same here. I actually got the 256 right off the bat, and later this year was upgraded to 384, just happened to notice when I rebooted my modem

If you add the price difference over a one year period, it comes out to about $36 a year difference! I'd rather pay full price and have the security of no 1 year contract than have to deal with a stupid $200 early termination fee!

Think of it this way...[SBC Sales Associate] "Congragulations, you pay $26.95 per month for service! Throw in an extra $36 and we'll tear up your 1 year contract!!!"

Can anyone confirm this?

When I signed up, I think the non-1yr contract was about ~$45/month, so it was worth it to me to get the contract.

DSLExtreme is NOT as good as Yahoo DSL ...

I am feeling so bad because I found out about this last week after I switch from DSL Yahoo to DSLExtreme and is already too late for me to stay on Yahoo DSL. I don't know about other area but at least here at RB - San Diego, CA area.
Here is why.

1 - Yahoo DSL did not charge the extra $2.xx bue DSLExtreme does, which total cost of $24.26 for DSLExtreme instead of $26.99 for Yahoo DSL - So $26.99 - $24.24 =$2.75 save on DSLExtreme

2 - DSLExtreme charge extra $5 for dial up service in case you need to use for travel but DSL Yahoo did not ( So: $24.24 + $5 = $29.24/month for DSLExtreme)

3 - Yahoo DSL gives up to 10 family members FREE but DSLExtreme only allow ONE member FREE and charge each additional member for extra $1 each. In my case I have three peason in my family. Therefore; for them to use DSLExtreme mail service I have to pay for additional $2 more (Myself is free).

4 - Yahoo DSL link your DSL mail to the free YAHOO.com and provide FREE upgraded like mail service (If you are wirh free yahoo.com you know what I mean) but DSLExtreme seem to be very limitted (I am going to use it and will know how limit it is).

5 - DSLExtrme speed suppose to be identical to what I already had (1.2M download and 315K upload) with Yahoo DSL because they both use SBC tel. But I am afraid now that DSLExtreme may be worst (I'll be update when I get their service on the this update thusday!

1. You are saving money....DSL Extreme is cheaper than SBC. The "extra" you are paying is the Federal Universal Service Charge.

2. $5 more for dial up. who cares... if you want a dial up service, go with a dial up only service.

3. Yahoo DSL gives up to 10 family members FREE but DSLExtreme only allow ONE member FREE and charge each additional member for extra $1 each. In my case I have three peason in my family. Therefore; for them to use DSLExtreme mail service I have to pay for additional $2 more (Myself is free). I do not know what crack you are smoking...get a router then you can connect all the computers you want to your connection at no extra cost. DSL Extreme does give you 5 Dynamic IPs with the $21.95 plan

4. Free Yahoo mail with sbc? Woopie, who cares. Get a free gmail account and get 1GB. DSL Extreme gives you ten 100MB email accounts (1GB TOTAL) and ten 25MB Webspace accounts (250MB TOTAL).

5. Your speed will be the same with DSLExtreme. I get 1142/318.

I just had to reply to this post cause all you did was complain about DSLExtreme, even though you have not even had the service activated!
Many of your points to not make any sense. "Yahoo DSL gives up to 10 family members FREE but DSLExtreme only allow ONE member FREE " has got to be one of the "MOST NOOB" statments I have ever read.

In closing, go buy, borrow, check-out a book on home networking so you can understand what it is you are talking about.
Lastly, do us all a favor and "preview" before you post... "I'll be update when I get their service on the this update thusday!" ?????

Shoot, this is a good deal either way you go with DSL Extreme or SBC DSL. I have SBC now for $26.95 a month and I love it. To put it simply, you get a solid broadband connection for under $30 a month including taxes. You have to love it.

In short, go with what works.

I really don't understand why people are still arguing about this SBC thing. The fact is:

SBC DSL is CRAP CRAP CRAP

I know you're probably trying to find an alternative for RR or another cable ISP if you don't have one, but if one is available, you should definitely go that route. I don't really like TimeWarner that much, but I do have to say that they are very helpful when you call with a problem, BUT--catch this but--BUT you have to be somewhat pushy. Don't let them push you around and you can even get credit from them when you're having a problem. Remember, this coment was about Time Warner.

SBC DSL is just crap. Their service is crap, their reliability (if you can call it that) is crap, and from personal experience, they refuse to give a refund for days down. My wife had DSL before we got married, and their DSL was down for 2 weeks, yes 2 WEEKS, and it took that long for someone to come out and take a loot at it. And they did NOT credit back any of the days it was down.

Sorry for the crap thread, but people should know the truth. Find something, ANYTHING but SBC DSL.

Well, I have to say that is a crap post.

DSL Extreme is a gold award provider on broadbandreports.

SBC takes silver.

Sorry, but according to the reviews, both ISPs are superior. It all depends on your local area. I know some areas where DSL totally sucks balls and where cable is the best and vice versa. Go with what you can get and what works in your area.

SBC has been rock solid to me. No downtime, top notch speeds, and no problems.

I definitely have to agree. I got my SBC DSL back in february and have had no problems. I'm actually enjoying them because I originally paid for 1.5 down/128 up, but they have since upgraded my upload to 384 for free! Now that is awesome, it is much better than what I would have gotten with AT&T (They couldn't even get their upload and download speeds correct on their webpage at the time!)

I just want to clarify - the main sbc yahoo account (can have sub accounts for email and such) has a personal plus email package, which includes a 2gb email account! So, much better than Gmail IMO. Not to mention their excellent spam blocking - I never get a piece of spam in my inbox, EVER, and non-spam is always delivered to my inbox. Lots of filters you can put in place for spam as well.

BTW - I'm in SW Ohio
