Scanner question

I have a Microtek Scanmaker 4800 scanner that does a good job. However, the glass appears to need cleaning on the inside of the scanner, if that makes any sense. I have dust and what appears to be almost a fog on the inside of the glass.

My question is, can I remove the glass and clean it? If so, how do I get the scanner apart without damaging the important stuff?

I believe on the 4800 there are only 2 screws
holding the top on.
(under the cover, in recessed hole. Front snaps in place)

The hard part is actually cleaning it and not leaving a
residue, lint and dust.

Is it relatively easy to do without damaging anything? How carefull do I need to be with the scanner components?

I have to do this on my Visioneer from time to time. 2 screws and just a ribbon cable to deal with. All the mechanism and such remains in the lower. I would imagine yours it similar.

Just a word to the wise. Scanners have "optical" mirrors. Base, glass, reflective layers. Bathroom mirrors are base, reflective, glass. The reflective material scratches easily and should be cleaned with an optical air duster. Since it is the top layer on these mirrors one needs to take care. And for goodness sake do not remove the lens to clean it. You will never get it realigned. Don't worry, not too difficult.
