Scary IRS Bill

Well when I filled out my income taxes earlier this year for my state, I did not have enough to pay off what I owed as my work cut hours drastically.

Well I sent off the form without payment thinking they would forget about me as it was only $40.

Well about 2 months ago I got a IRS reminder that stated I owed the $40 + $4 for interest. Well I hid that because I was laid off the week before so I had no money.

Now the IRS sent me a form saying I owe them $78 for the fee and a penalty.

Now, this one seems serious, but I am thinking about hiding it so I dont have to worry about it. Can the IRS sue me for that amount or will they just keep sending scary letters to me in which I keep hiding?

Put it under your mattress and forget about it. As long as you don't think about it it's not real.

The IRS doesn't need to sue and get a judgment to levy things and freeze bank accounts.

Worst gov't agency to piss off evar -_-

You are a fucking idiot. Pay your debt, or it will keep adding up and you will get into real shit down the road.

Well, I have nothing really. No Bank accounts, savings accounts, stocks, or anything. So, I should just throw them under my mattress then, correct?

They can garnish your wages.

And by the time they get to the garnishing stage the debt is usually about 300% higher than it started.

I've heard people who have a lot of back up taxes get items taken from their house and auctioned off.

Dude, the IRS can sit back and let a computer file update your increasing fines and fees as long as you want.

Of course, it's idiotic to expect the computer to forget about your outstanding taxes due. I really, really feel for you regarding winding up out of a job, but the $78 at this point is something YOU NEED TO PAY NOW if possible. If not, contact the IRS and tell them your story, maybe you'll get a penalty-free extension.

It wouldn't surprise me if delinquency paying the IRS flags you for more scrutiny in the future when it's time to file each year. Don't putz around, pay it if you at all are able to.

Most people who are laid off eventually get re-employed.

The IRS doesn't care. They will wait until you are making money and then THEY WILL TAKE THE MONEY!

if you can't come up with $40 for a tax bill do you think having internet and a computer are things you are entitled too?

IRS can pretty much do just about anything they want the way it is set up. Throw in Patriot Act and the other crap voted into place and you can be surely fucked for life.

You do realize hiding bills once they come doesn't take them out of the mind of the person that sent them to you, right?

If you can't pay, you can't pay. Interest will continue to pile up, and eventually you will get a job and you will be able to pay. If you are due a refund in the future when you file, they will subtract what you owe before sending your refund.
