I had the luxury of shooting a wedding in one of my favorite settings.
Outdoors with rolling green hills and blue sky.
The earliest indicator that this shoot would kick ass was the drive up there.

One of the prettiest drives I have ever taken. Calm, surreal. Was it striking exotic? No. It was the simple beauty of it. Not much to describe. Green hills, trees. No waterfalls, no faces of cliffs that are seemingly miles high.
If I were to pick a "dream" place to live, this would be at the top.

Description. From Southern California. Take the 101 N to the 154. When you hit Los Olivos (a really cool little town) take the Figueroa Mountain Pass Rd and keep going till your hearts content.
Awesome.
Be sure to check out the vista lookouts near Lake Cachuma. There are a few. If you have about 30 minutes to spare. Take Stagecoach Rd and head down the mountain. Then when you get to the bottom near the tavern, look up. Cool view of the bridge you just went over.

Other activities, bike riding, hiking, wine tasting, golfing.

-EDIT-Oh, BTW...Highway 154 is littered with CHP cars on radar duty. Don't even think about it. At that wedding, three guests had tickets to remember the event with.
Might want to save the spirited driving for it's artery roads.

For those in the northern country, North Shore Drive between Duluth, MN and Two Harbors, MN in the fall is fantastic. The road twists along Lake Superior and kind of reminds you of driving along the ocean. Beautiful scenery and a great drive for any car.

i-76 from central PA to pittsburgh is a nice drive, and always light on traffic.

The Highway 101 is well known, but some of the better routes to and from are not obvious.
If you are going to or from the Portland/Willamette valley area, try out Highway 34 from Corvallis to Waldport.

It is green and beautiful, and follows along the Alsea River to the sea. The river gets lazy and is lined with docks and boathouses, a few restaurants.

I drove over to Angeles National Forest this weekend, Hwy 2 I believe. Spectacular scenery, speed limit of 50-55mph on twisty roads. Best time I've had in my car so far. Every car pulled over at turnouts for me to pass.

Angeles Forest Hwy, Tujunga, CA 91042

Did Hwy 39 on Sunday, but that was 40mph limit and made it boring, especially since no assholes would pullover and there were no passing lanes the whole distance I drove.

I've got almost all those links open, except the ones I have driven already. This will give me some vacation ideas for the truck and trailer. Thanks!

HWY 1 or the PCH in Cali in general is just an awesome drive. Going to take the time one of these days and take it from Socal to Norcal. Now just gotta find the proper car to take on it.

I like to take a drive from the Maplewood, MN area up Highway 95 to Shoreview. From there I cross into Wisconsin and come back down WI 35. It's a beautiful area in the fall.

There are many spots on the parkway where you can see 3 or 4 corners ahead. No cars plus no police in sight = brief fun!

Drive from the US to Canada, or the reverse. It is a hell of a drive.

I also drove from St Louis down highway 70 through vale colorado through the mountains north and down into the Salt lake Valley in the early morning then up through the canyons to Cache Valley in Utah. It is a beautiful area. Then on the way back came the northern route over the high plateau of the northwestern United States.

Sure you can fly, but everyone should take some drives to the more out of the way sites like the Black Hills, and old Faithful, and the mountains with all the president's Heads (Rushmore?). It is fun to purposely get off the main highway and travel through national parks and scenic highways. You have to purposely go places like the Corn Palace just to see it.

Just did this drive again about a month ago. Was even better with all the frozen ice blocks by the shore.
