I need to know if these things are working well for gaming now. My Sony G410 is going TU and needs to be replaced. An LCD would be nice, but not if playing games on it sucks.

So have LCD's reached that point yet?

TU! That made me laugh.

I have a 2005FP and a 7800GTX and I can honestly say that HL2 Lost Coast is just "Breathtaking" and also GuildWars looks awesome. I do believe that LCD's are up to par in the gaming arena!

Good Luck!

Cool. I'm in the process of my first computer upgrade in 2 years. The Vid card I have coming from Newegg is the 7800 GT so I hope I will get similar results.

In a word. Yes.

The ONLY thing that some people switching from CRTs still find anoying is picture quality on LCDs in Non-Native resolutuions. With a CRT you can play games at 800x600, 1024x768, or 1280x1024 and have every resolution be equally sharp.

With LCDs you are stuck at one resolution for the best picture quality. Once you realize though how much easier LCDs are on your eyes ... you probably won't mind the fixed resolution.

Computers and laptops only from what I've been told and seen at their stores, the hardware is excluded from the 6mos. limit.

For anyone interested in the Seattle area, the Southcenter Costco had 9 available!
I was tempted, but I'm saving up for the 21" Gateway, which they have at the Issaquah Costco for $580 something...

*Edit* I just checked Costco.com and they have an Acer 24" 6ms for $899!! Maybe I'll just get that...

Crap... I waited too long and now they are OOS!

GRRRRR.

I drove around to a couple costco's seeing if I could find one locally, when I could I just came back home to buy online. I was checking specs compared to the DELL and poof, they were all gone.

I just got the Sceptre 20" from Costco. Also got the Dell 2005fpw last week. Have both of them right infront of me right now.
Both are connected via DVI cable on my 7800gt video card.

Color Comparison with naked eye:

White: More whiter on Sceptre, Yellowish on Dell
Black: More Blacker on Sceptre, Just a tad bit less black (hardly noticeable)
RED: Less Vivid on Sceptre (slightly washed out compared to Dell), More brighter and attractive on Dell
GREEN: Brigher on Sceptre, Looks slightly washed out on Dell
BLUE: Just a little bit brighter on Sceptre

If you guys have any questions, Let me know

I am having a hard time deciding which one to keep.
Dell definately has better features like better stand (height adjustable, rotation), more inputs and USB ports.
Sceptre has that Costco undefeatable return policy (and possible HD capability...says 1080i/1080p HD mode ready)

I will not be using any other port other than the DVI on any of these LCDs and I tried rotation (portrait mode) on Dell and did not like it. So both of these are useless on the Dell.

What adjustments can you make to the stand? Just tilt?

Also, did you do color calibration on both of them?

Judging from your video card, it seems you game. Report on ghosting?

Any confirmation of buzzing noise?

Thanks

1) Adjustments on Stand:
DELL: you can make all sorts of adjustments.
SCEPTRE: On tilt up and down, nothing else.

2) NO color calibration done on any, just running at the default factory settings. I need some guide for color calibrations.

3) NO ghosting on any of them so far by watching movies. I have not gamed on the Sceptre yet, so cannot comment yet.
DELL GAMING: NO ghosting at all, just some blurriness when you move (normal on LCDs).
SCEPTRE GAMING: Will update in a little bit

4) BUZZING NOISE: NONE on either

PICS if requested.

UPDATE:

Setting the Dell to "BLUE PRESET", the whites are now more whiter on the DELL. I think that I need to do some color calibration. I will set both LCDs at default factory settings for now and have pics for all of you soon.

Thanks for the info. Very informative. I wish the ergonomics were better, but there's just no beating Dell in the price war. Now to look for a good monitor arm...

The sceptre would make an X shape where the backlight is bleeding while viewing this display in dark scenes.. definitely annoying. I returned it

I'm not sure I completely understand.
Are you saying:
The X shape would be visable onscreen?
or
The backlighing bleeds to the wall behind the display?

Thanks

i just picked one up from costco.

I'm definitally unimpressed with this thing. I guess you get what you pay for. As the previous poster mentioned, when you have a black screen, there are diagnal lines of white light radiating inward from the corners making an "X" shape..

I'm going to add this is my first LCD ever. I'm coming from a 19" CRT running 1600x1200@70Hz.

The color/picture quality is pretty amazing on this LCD. It's easy on the eyes. The picture is just so beautiful. but it gets worse.

The mouse curser seems jerky ... it's not "smooth", this bothers me a lot because I jumped through hoops to get a VERY accurate mouse (razer diamondback with hacked USB drivers for an increased polling rate of 1Mhz.)

Moving further, scrolling down websites seems jerky also. It's not a smooth scroll like you would see on a CRT, but it kinda jumps down. This is the LCD doing this, not the computer.

More testing. The only game I really play is Counter Strike Source. It has native support for 16:9/16:10 aspect ratio's. I loaded up my favorite game, at the native resolution 1680x1050. Very beautiful crystal clear picture. I don't notice ghosting/blur too much, but what I DO notice is the jerking. I can compare it to playing on a laggy server where you move your mouse around and it kinda jumps around, and isn't smooth.

Sadly, I'll be taking this back to costco tomorrow

Anyone got a link to the coupons to get that DELL so cheap?

Thanks for the review... I'm a bit disapointed I didn't just on the most recent Dell deal too.
