It's a TV and a monitor!

You don't put it on your desk and sit 2' from it. You put it in your livingroom, use it for a HTPC monitor. I watch TV via SageTV. Play games, slide show, e-mail, web, etc.

Damn...I just bought this thing online (and by the way it rules!) but they did not have the mail in rebate. Do you think Costco would give me the rebate if I threatened to return it?

Speaking of which, there is a problem with DVI settings for this TV from your computer (at least with my Radeon 9800PRO). If you change the input to the TV and then return to DVI, there is no signal anymore. The only way to get it back is to reset the computer. It seems that some folks have written little macros that are mapped to their keyboards to change the resolution and this will start up the DVI signal again.

Lets see, Um No, Im typing on my 37" Westinghouse and this thing kicks serious butt as a computer monitor/XBOX 360/TV setup. And Im sitting right up next to it.

Westinghouse 37" $1599.00 I bought mine from here with no trouble. But paid many hundred more at the time, Shipping is also reasonable.

Thats a DANG good price for a screen that size with that native resolution. Especially since it supports HDMI & HDCP which will be required to output HD movies in an HD player. If you have an HD display without that support, you are screwed, you will be forced to watch HD movies (like blu ray or HD DVD) in normal 480p resolution, not HD 720p or 1080i res.

If the OP is still around, he may want to update his title, its down to $1499 now ($100 instant and $100 MIR)

I also read that this has an adjustable bulb intensity. This is good because if you are in sunlight areas you'll want to turn it up, and if you are in a normal room you'll want to turn it down to get a blacker black.

And this supports 1080p. Wow. Didn't know of much that supported the p instead of i.

OH! Almost forgot, windows vista will ONLY output HD movies in HD res to HDCP capable monitors. So if you bought a 19" or 20" that doesn't support that, you will get screwed if you update to windows vista.

So this is an extremly futureproofed LCD.

I was planning to get the 24" dell at some point, this temps me to get this instead. But I think maybe I'll stick with the dell because 37" might be too big for sitting right next to the thing I'd have to move my head around to see the whole screen lol.

[In case you were wondering... Yes, the above is primarily to convince myself NOT to go for the well priced 1920x1080 panel.]
The Viewsonic N2750W? Picked up one at Costco last May for $850. Considering getting this Sceptre 37" and only one day left to think about it since the $1600 sale price ends tomorrow.

How'd you like the Viewsonic? (I would have PM'd but it looks like you have it disabled.)

Those pictures are really nice.

Current 1080p DLPs are limited to 30fps. Does anyone know if these 1080p LCDs can do 60fps? Sure DVDs are not 60fps but some video games are and that is why I care about this feature.

I dont know why this would be limited in that way, its a LCD panel, just like a LCD computer monitor. They aren't limited in FPS.

Hes talking about ATSC tuner chips limited to 30FPS on 1080p sources. There are new chips that support 1080p 60FPS but even most of the newer 1080p TVs aren't using them. This wont matter because the best Xbox 360 performance will be 720p 60fps.

It supports 1920x1070 60Hz from a computer no problem however.

Check out the AVS forums for a serious jittering issue on this monitor. It is present on the vast majority of rev. 2 versions (which they all appear to be at this point) and is the sole reason I am not rushing out to get one. If they could fix it, or if you can get one without the problem, it is an excellent deal.

Here is a bit of a summary from one of the posts:

"I too had this judder/tearing problem, as everyone else with a Revision2 set does. It's particularly noticeable on video with lots of panning. But JudderTest makes it even more obvious.

I managed to use PowerStrip to adjust the refresh rate to minimize the problem, and at 53.105Hz JudderTest shows almost no judder or tearing. And indeed, when I play a WMV-HD movie, the resulting image is gorgeous.

Here's the thing, though. This set clearly does NOT do 1080p, which requires 60 Hz. There is something in the signal path inside the TV that is causing "Judder" (which amounts to "skipping" frames and tearing) when fed a 1080p signal above 53Hz. This is not good.

And worse, I really don't think that people should have to go through this nonsense with what amounts to a computer monitor. I just tested my other 2 LCD computer displays, and NEITHER of them show this judder problem at 60Hz."

Well maybe I am assesing the situation wrong but even if you input a 720p signal over composite connections, DLPs, CRT and assumably even this LCD will convert the signal into the display's native resolution. If the display can only handle drawing 30fps just like the DLPs, then the input 60fps will be cut down to 30.
