I normally buy $1 replacement schick razors. Has anybody here jumped on the 4 razor bandwagon, and is it overpriced and overhyped, like it seems to be?

I haven't tried the quattro but I got one of the triple bladed ones for free. It's not to bad. I've had problems estimating where the blades are when trying to trim sideburns. I bet the quattro would be the same way. I still prefer my sensor excel.

Why hello there, I have a Schick Quattro.

It's a very good razor, but it's no better than the Gilette Mach 3 or even Extreme 3 disposable. It shaves as smooth as the Mach 3, and as close. It's just not better at anything. Mach 3 is still the best I've used, but the Quattro gets the job done very well.

Verdict: Very good razor, but one extra blade don't mean squat. Recommended overall.

I usually tape two Mach 3 cartridges together for the six blade action. Seriously though, I genuinely preferred the Mach 3 to the Quattro. I tried the Schick first shortly after switching back to blades after using electrics for years. Both shaved as well, but the Mach 3 seemed easier on my face.

Oh I almost forgot, I didn't mind the price so much after I found people selling large quantities on Ebay.

Another nod for Mach3.
The Quattro just feels less smoother and I kinda can feel the blade on my face.
It shaves fine though but I'm sticking with Mach3. Smoother shaves and does not feel anything.

I'm still waiting on the Schick Dodeca where all I have to do is put it on each cheek and flick my wrist ever-so-slightly and I get the whole side of my face and neck.

went from mach3 -> quattro -> mach3...

the sucky thing about the quattro, although it did shave OK, is that the pivoting "part" is on the actual razor and if it breaks you have to get a new razor... not just the blade. Well, guess what happened to me a week into the new razor... BAM, it broke. Went back and looked at my mach3 to see why it lasted me so long and noticed that the pivoting "part" was on the blade and if that breaks all you have to do is replace the blade, not the entire razor.

anyway, just my opinion...

I picked up a Quattro on a business trip because I had left my Mach3 at home and I was interested in seeing whether it was any good. It does shave fine, but I will back everyone up on saying that the Mach 3 just seems a lot more pleasant on my face. I have cut myself more times with the Quattro than ever before. Around where I live the blades for the Quattro are a bit cheaper, but I'm going to stick with the Mach 3.

Just wait until Gillette's new 4-blade comes out! I previewed it for a market research company, and it was very nice. It has a cool new trimming blade on the 'back' for precise work on the sideburns & facial hair. (So I guess that makes it a 5-blade...)

The Onion used to have this article, "Fvck everything, we're doing 5 blades." I think Gillette may have forced them to take it down since I can't find it anymore.

I've used the Mach 3 turbo for a couple years now and it has been pretty nice. My girlfriend bought the Quattro a couple weeks ago and I tried it out. It seems to make me press it harder into my face since it doesn't pivot at the same point as the Mach 3. The fulcrum is directly above the cartride on the Quattro while it is behind the cartridge on the Mach 3, so there is less direct pressure.

The Quattro has the trademark "safety wires" across the blades that I thought would affect shave quality and closeness, but you really don't notice they're there. I managed to get a very close shave with the Quattro without any irritation. I usually get a bit with the Mach 3 on my neck. It was a pretty nice shave overall. I was especially surprised that my girlfriend told me the blade was about 2 weeks old!

My only beef with the Quattro was that it becomes clogged with hair and skin cells that cannot be rinsed away. My girlfriend didn't have this problem as the razor was spotless when she handed it to me. I'm not sure how this would impact long term performance, but if it's only cosmetic, I'll probably switch.

I still have another 2 months supply worth of Mach 3 razors and the powered Mach 3 is coming out in the next few months, so I may wait before taking the plunge on a new razor.

I tried the quattro when I ran out of Mach3 blades, the next day I went and bought another set of Mach3 blades, It just doesn't feel as smooth and didn't shave quite as well, so Mach3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Quattro
