Need to buy some area rugs for the house but I know nothing about them

Was looking on Amazon and saw some for what seems like a really low price.
example: http://www.amazon.com/Traditional-Is...649947&sr=1-19

They have good reviews, but I'm skeptical of the price. Are they garbage? going to fall apart in a few months?

The rugs I need aren't going to see much wear/use. I need one for my bedroom, like 8x10, 1 for the dining area (guessing 8x10), probably 2 for the living (1 8x10 or larger, and maybe a 2nd slightly smaller), and I'd like a runner for the hallway.

I'd really not spend a ton of money on these rugs, but I don't want to cheap out and have to replace them soon either.

I'd steer clear of anything that is not made out of natural fiber - preferably wool.

They wear so much better, are much thicker, heavier, do not curl, often don't require a pad underneath as they usually have a full 100% cotton back.

Whatever you get, make sure it really ties the room together. Oh, and scotch guard it in case someone piddles on it.

I have a decent $150ish dollar 5x7 in the home theater on the riser ... then I have 2 x super super super cheap bottom of the barrel 5x7s in the home theater on the concrete basement floor (which occasionally can flood a little bit.) I also have a cheap but not quite as garbagy 5x7 in my living room.

Berber should hold up decently well even if it's cheap vs pile or shag which won't endure as much wear and tear before coming apart.

Might make more sense to get a $50 rug and replace it every 2-3 years compared to spending like $500 for a super durable awesome rug ....

was looking at some photos of people's houses with area rugs and the ones they have in the living room, they put in front of the sofa, like a 5x7 or something. I was thinking the sofa would sit on the rug.

So I guess I might be able to save a little more money by getting a smaller rug

Go to TJMaxx

Lowes is better than Home Depot

Go to local stores.

Whatever you get, you will be sick of in 5 years. Jsut buy cheap and replace it more frequently. A good rug is awesome in some circumstances. Jsut understand yours.

Matters what the size of hte room is and how much flor you want to cover. It's up to you. Stop looking at photos. Look at your room. Think about what areas must be covered. Figure out what the minimum size carpet is that can do that. Then buy it.

Back when I was single and needed rugs for my new place, I got myself a used Persian rug from Pakobel Rugs on eBay. Their selection was awesome, and I got a real hand knotted wool rug for cheap.

I'm not sure where Pakobel went, but I'm sure that there are other wholesalers on eBay that are just as good.

We bought this one from Amazon just before Christmas last year.

Lot darker than the picture portrays (which is fine) and works great for the intended purpose of "keep the toddler from ruining the apartment carpering". It's in our dining room.
I say start cheap and work your way up to fine Persian rugs in 40 years.

Rugs are crazy expensive. I'll never understand...

I've seen this show where they get the small discarded pieces from the back of the store for super cheap, and make one big one, that looks really pimpin'

I can't remember if I bought our area rug from here or here since my ebay purchase isn't showing in my history but I really like our rug. I can't find it on their website anymore but they have a lot of cool/contemporary rugs.

edit: *found it*
