Yes but worth it if you ask me

I had one on my SGS2 and liked the battery life, but there were no cases for it. If I can find a decent case for the GS3 ones I might get another extended battery

Any chance you could post some pics of the SGS3's thickness with the extended battery and backplate?

I notice every time I've searched for it, they show the battery and new backplate off of the phone but are very careful not to show how it actually looks assembled, making me suspect it may be too bulky for my tastes.

Also, does it support NFC?

This one has pics of it assembled

there are a LOT of extended batteries out there that support NFC.

What does the battery have to do with supporting NFC? I have a lot to learn about this device, because I wouldn't ordinarily think I needed special features from my battery to support a network protocol .

I wouldn't mind a better battery, but I wouldn't be able to fit a thicker phone in the case I have. This thing does chew through power, though. My battery is good for about a day sitting on the desk with everything turned on. It helps if I turn off bluetooth, gps, and mobile data while sitting at home connected to wifi. Also, it seems to recharge very quickly.

The NFC antenna is in the battery (for some weird reason), anyway Samsung are coming out with their own 3000mah battery soon (supposed to be about the 6th) so I'd wait for that. (Not that Samsung have a great rep for getting accessories out on time)

Thanks. Too bulky for me, but I like that it's an option. I just keep a few extra batteries around car/home/office and I'm never worried about even the remote possibility of running out of juice or being tethered to a charger.

My understanding is though the device has the NFC chip, the antenna that makes it work is in the battery. A cheaper battery make will leave out the NFC antenna, so NFC won't work. Not a big deal if you don't even use NFC, but kind of a shocker if you rely on it. You'll notice most batteries from a reputable maker will prominently list NFC support (or not) in the description. (IE: like in the above amazon link)

Thanks for that. Checked it out on Wikipedia, so now I get it. Seems like a weird design decision but I guess they had nowhere else to put it.

I also learned that I have the Snapdragon chipset, because I have 4GLTE. Here I was thinking I was rocking a quad. Oh well, it's fast enough, but I don't get 4G many places around here so I probably would have been willing to trade down to 3G for a quad core.
