Also, I am not sure the manual 3 gets better mileage than tC. I am guessing they both get similar mileage, which would be in the mid to high 20's in both city and highway.
I think both could use an extra gear for highway fuel economy.

Mazda 3.

Also, car guru's correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't the Mazda 3 have an arguably better engine (Variable timing).

The tC deff could, I own one and love it, they deff geared it for more speed then MPG, 4000 RPM at 85MPH is a bit much. Then again I came from a V8 which would sit at 2500RPM at 85-90.

And to the OP.... I'm sorry you live in the south, atleast for looking at a tC, southern dealerships ALL charge that damn 500-700 fee. I paid all of $29 for fees on mine, IL limits the documentation fees to that amount.

As for the squeak thing... that was fixed long ago, the sunroof on the first production models did it (mine included), but they told dealers whats wrong and how to fix it, and mine is fine now, not a peep from the sunroof. Now my dash and pasanger door rattle but thats my fault from my stereo, just gotta reinstall it this spring. I had to custom make a headunit mount since there wasn't one for the tC for aftermarket stereos when I got mine.

Honestly go with the one you think looks best, their almost the same besides the sunroof on the tC. Power is close to the same with the tC having a slight edge, but nothing major, the Mazda does have a slight MPG edge, more so in the manual then the auto because of the tCs very aggressive gearing.

Alright, a little update.

Went to the Toyota dealership. They had a dark gray tC with a lot of the extra options, came to 18,800 for it.

I liked it, but I think the 3 drives better. The tC has some real neat options though. So I'm still kind of torn on what to do right now. Going to sleep on it for right now, and I'm waiting for the GM at the Mazda dealership to call me.

Have to be new? Why not like a 2003-2005 Mazda 6, accord coupe, toyota solara (which get about the same or better mileage and are bigger to boot)

Don't wanna spend that much. Plus it's not that big.

heh, neither of your first choice cars are any bigger than the RSX

Mazda6 - My head rubs the roof in certain places, no go there - need more head room.
Accord Coupe - Meh.
Solara - No thanks.

My ex had an RSX and that was small, very small. The Mazda 3 has a lot more room than that.

kinda different cars in all honesty - and i'll admit to being biased, i love my mz3 5 door.
the mz3 is either sedan or hatch, he tc is only coupe - which do you need? do you need the xtra room of the 3? do you need the more doors? for my money, all things otherwise being equal, definitely go for the 3 - more car for the money and you like driving it just as much if not more.

also, please tell me you're using classic mazda and not cory fairbanks - i bought mine at fairbanks unfortunately and will never do biz there again, i wish that classic had had the packages i wanted when i had to buy the car (previous car died completely, had to get it that weekend)

were they willing to get one for you etc? if you can avoid it at all costs, please don't give the place business! (doesn't sound like you're in a time crunch to buy a car like i was)
not to mention that classic used to (don't know anymore, but they were when i was looking) give you tires for the life of the car...definitely worth going there over fairbanks if for no other reason

the mazda is certainly the more practical of the two cars. And probably, in the end, the more fun to drive. Even though the tC has a bigger engine, I've got a few friends who have them who say they just aren't very exciting.

Again.. maybe consider a Golf 1.8T or a GTI.. used, even - they can be all kinds of fun.
