Mazda 3...of course I'm biased, as I own a 2005 Mazda 3 5-door, but after looking at a number of cars, for me it was down to the tC and the 3, just like you. I thought both were nice cars, but I went with the 3 for three reasons. The first was that although they were rated the same in terms of performance, I wasn't all that impressed with the tC, the Mazda 3 seemed to drive more "fun" for some reason. I also didn't like the interior on the tC at all. Seemed rather cheap, and the roof was WAAAAY too low. I'm only 5'9", I should not be almost scraping the roof like that. The third reason, and perhaps not a factor for some people, was that I wanted to get a hatchback so I could carry stuff if I had to. My Mazda 3 is fine unless it's something really huge, the tC is pretty worthless in terms of cargo space.

Well said. Trunk room from the tC to the 3 is a joke, the 3 beats it hands down.

depends on what you'll use the car for, one obvious pro to the 3 is that it's a sedan/wagon. on the other hand, the tC has a 2.4L that is proven to be reliable.

The Toyota 2.4 has been around since '00.
The Mazda 2.3 has been around since '02 (maybe even before).

They're both good engines.

the mercedes s600 got the 6.0l v12 engine that has been around for long too(i kno of topic but i had to say it)

I bought this exact car (2006 3 S Touring Hatch w/ moonroof & CD changer, winning blue, 5 spd) last November for $17,500 plus taxes, tags & license. Invoice on it was a little over $18k.

Duh, the 3s is a far classier car

when the tc first came out you were having orgasms over it.

Not after reading ScionLife after the car had been on the road for a few months

You still feel this way about scions? I need to get a car and am deciding between a Scion TC, Civic, and 3

I've been test driving a lot of these cars with my sister as she is about to purchase...and we've decided on the Mazda 3. Gets good reliability from Consumers, and she can get exactly the options she wants for less than a Civic or Jetta.

I liked the tC as well...but she wanted 4 doors and the Mazda got better gas mileage and was "cuter" to her.

She will be buying a manual, 3s touring with the 6CD/Moonroof option.

The TC is for spoiled teenaged kids or those who want to act like them. Go drive through a wealthy suburban neighborhood or high school and see all the TCs parked.

No thanks!

I was going to get the Mazda3S but then there is only 1 black mazda 3 hatch GT in california right now. That, and its about 400 miles away from me and the dealers aren't playing ball.

End of story, I'm getting a impreza 2.5 wagon. Weights like 150-200 more, but I get AWD, more room, probably better resale, and like 15 more hp/10ft-lb I think.

An hour and a half away from tahoe and now I don't have to deal with the "we'll need chains" excuse to go there anymore.
