This will vary by store but I noticed at 2 Sams today that they are clearancing out display models of TV's.

I picked up a Phillips 42" 720p plasma for $269. That's right, two hundred sixty nine dollars.
they had a Vizio 37" for $250 and some smaller TV's for some damn good prices.

This was in Plano TX and one in Dallas. the manager said they were toldto get rid of all the old display models and that they needed the shelf space so the stuff had to go. the computers weren't so aggressively discounted, but the TV's were all 50-80% off. I would have bought more if I had more room in the truck to get it home.

Good finds. My Sam's Club sucks when it comes to clearance. Usually the clearance TV costs more than a comparable new model.

What is your proposed motive for him to lie?

Agreed - on both counts. Nice deals, thanks for the heads up but the Sam's in Warwick, RI sucks. Only one manager out of 5 will actually talk w/ you and "negotiate" and there are rarely even deals that get you down into hot deal range....

1080p is so next to worthless for most people. No on air, even from cable or DTV is in 1080p. Only thing in 1080p is BlueRay and even then unless you are closer then 10 ft you can't see the difference. Sorry but 720p will be good for the life of any TV you buy.

No one is dump 720p TV. They dumping ond model like they do every year.

Does that mean they were all open-box? If they were, I guess I can see it being that low since not many people would buy open box + 720p.

Yeah, open box and put on a display where it was on from 8AM - 9PM 7 days a week for probably a good 6+ months. I am sure they offer some sort of warranty and even if you did buy one a 2XX bucks and it died in a few years I'd say it would be worth it IMO. 720P vs 1080P on anything less then a 46" screen is minimal at best. You need to get into the bigger screens to notice a difference.

Nice Find. If I didn't already have a 106" screen I got off ebay for 250 after papal 25% off I'd be down at sams checking it out.

It's not a sale you moron. It's a store by store clearance. Here comes black friday, and they need the space for the new models they're pushing. It makes perfect sense. These TVs have probably been on 24/7 for quite a while on display, so it's not completely odd to see them so discounted.

Good find OP. If I was still in the market I'd definitely make the trip and check it out.

Good luck with those... Been sitting on the shelf for a year playing the same video over and over... You are getting the discount because of the reduced life of the unit... Would rather pick one up on Craigslist at least it hasn't been used from 8AM-10PM daily...

this would be a huge ymmv since it was a reduced price on a display model

I had to go to my sams club anyway. They had a bunch of TV's (display units) but they were all the same price or they sure as well were not 2XX dollars, I might have picked up a bedroom set. A very BIG YM-WILL-V on this deal.

Altho on the bright side, gas was a 1.75 a gallon!!! Sheesh.... I never would have thought that would ever be that low, I thought about taking a picture.

Just got back from Sams in San Antonio TX... found some discounted repair/return models for a nominal discount ($1000 marked down to ~$800). I asked about display models and was told that they sell them off frequently, but he said they only mark them down 5% (which seems odd). Anyway, no luck in SA.

@eric: yeah, it's great I scored $1.73 at Costco the other day!

Same story in Las Vegas - checked out two Sam's Club stores & neither had anything approaching a deal.

The open box at the first store (Rainbow & 215) were all $900 or more and none was especially large or impressive.

At the second store (215/Centennial in the NW), they had a 42" Magnavox plasma for $900 that looked a little rough, only down a little over $100. They had a Nakamichi plasma for $3300+ (Yes, you read that right. Three thousand for MAYBE a 46" TV. I know my Nakamichi tape deck was premium in its time, but this is a bit much. Didn't know Nakamichi was in this niche.)

At any rate, thanks to the OP for the effort, but nothing impressive here.

1080p helps BIG TIME for standard def TV as I work at a major cable company and we test TVs from time to time to test out our boxes for compatibility and personal home experience. 720p is good enough if a) you dont' really care (like grandmas, aunts, etc) b) gaming with Xbox/Wii/partialy PS3).

At this pricing, althought I wouldn't buy it because it's 720p, it will be great a good amount of families out there.
