I am happy Fry is coming to Downers Grove - my old hometown. I move to Boston (East Coast) about three years ago. No Fry here in the east coast. Good thing I am moving to Portland OR within a month. There is Fry there. From MidWest to the East then to the West. Too much moving.

Don't know. However, I was in the Micro Center at Gwinnett recently and made the comment to the sales clerk that I thought that Fry's still was coming to Gwinnett, but had not heard anything about it recently. She then told me it was still coming, but I didn't press her for the details of how she knew that.

I'm hoping they plan on opening another Chicago store. Something more in the north burbs that would be a bit closer (along the I-94 corridor) would be ideal

THe City of Industry Frys, has some kind of mechanical or Industrial theme, Im not sure what it is. It was possibly chosen after the name of the city.

Yes. I stopped in yesterday, all the cars in the lot are from the employee training. I asked an employee when they were opening, and he said they were supposed to be open already, but construction was taking longer than expected. He said the store definitely won't open in may, probably in June. He said when they open, they'll be putting a huge sign up saying they're open.

right on .... now you guys can experience that wonderful Fry's customer service like we have in Cali.

At least the sale prices are good ... the everyday prices are a little rough.

Dont know how it will be in the midwest...but the workers here in so cali are freaking idiots. They have an IQ ceiling of 50. Morons...
poeple that cant speak English very well, or those that have poor customer service skills. At least in my experience here in Socal.

Yeah, I go to the Palo Alto Stanford one and not only are the sales people rude, but they're rude in ENGRISH! And even though I'd rather go to Fry's than MicroShitter or CrapUSA, I still think their prices are only so-so.... I will almost ALWAYS wait the 2 days it takes to get something from crazypc.com or newegg...

According to broadbandreports, they've pretty much stocked the shelves, and it's possible for the store to open for July 4th.

The theme at the Fremont Fry's is... a warehouse! It's big and ugly $$$. I like it just the same though. Especially the other week, when they had a hot dog and coke for 25 cents in the parking lot. Twas a great way to kick off a sunny day...

While it's cool to have a Fry's in Chicago - it's not really in Chicago! It's out there in the burbs. It's quite a trek ot head there from downtown. What would be ideal is some place central like North/Clybourn. Then again - someone posted about when Fry's would come Michigan. I know lots of folks who head to Chicago just to go to Ikea. Why not head to Chicago for Fry's too?

Please.. PLEASE feel free to demolish Whole Foods/Best Buy and install a frys.. you might want to keep Sams and Goose Island though

That said, they said there were huge tax breaks for Frys and I very much doubt the damn yuppies want to give up their health stores.

Anyone hear a definite date yet? I'm from Michigan and would like to go there for the Grand Opening. I hear they have some awesome prices at grand openings.

A heads up for you Fry's newbies:
1. Don't waste time asking questions even remotely technical.
2. For memories and processors, get there early for special deals because you will have to stand in line for a customer rep to take your order, after which you take the paper to get the real stuff at the register.
3. Return policy is good but the line could be very long during weekends.

On the other hand Fry's is much better than OM/Staples in stocking up on special deal items. There are usually plenty to go around.

That angelfire site was also updated with:

Fry'sUpdate
From everything I've heard we can expect a late June/early July opening. Keep your eyes open for them having their soft open in the next couple of weeks or so.
