This is a SCORCHING HOTTTT deal for the BRAND NEW Acer Travelmate C102TI Tablet PC which is AMAZING!!! I just ordered one myself... Most places currently sell them for >$2400.. However, I was able to find them for $2084 - $100 MIR = $1984 AR! Acer Travelmate C102TI at Comp-U-Plus (In-Stock).... Also available directly from Acer for $2199 starting on Monday. These are the cheapest sources, both offer the same 1 year limited manufacturers warranty (kinda short time span, but oh well)...

*There's also the 102T (non-i) model, which has a 20GB HD instead of 30GB, and no built-in Wi-Fi

This is the future, folks... A laptop which is convertable into a touch screen drawing slate. The screen rotates 180 degrees, is capable of flipping over into tablet mode (cover the keyboard). Comes with Windows XP Tablet Edition (brand new), and has the ability to transpose your handwriting into text, or the ability to just leave your handwriting as notes.
No more disorganization for me.

$100 MIR (Nov. 5 - Jan 12) .pdf format

I went to the Microsoft Tablet PC conference/rollout in Denver today. I was fairly impressed, especially with how good the handwriting recognition was..... I will wait until the price drops though....

I think price drop is imminent. Microsoft have to let public to pick up the new technology quickly, otherwise it will be dead as their previous failed projects like webTV, with the majority of comsumer hold their pocket tight under current econimic condition, the only way they can do it is drop the price before this shopping season ends.

Yes.. The HP model is nice.. However, I believe that in order to put it into tablet mode, you must actually *remove* the keyboard.

The Compaq tablet just needs to be rotated and folded to be put in tablet mode. The Acer looks like it folde much in the same way as the Compaq.

The HP model has a much slower processor than the Acer. The HP has a Transmeta 1GHz processor and the Acer has a Pentium III 800MHz.

Yes the MHz on the HP is more, but MIPS, FIPS and other benchmarks are much lower than the Acer.

The Acer weighs about 3 lbs. I dont know about the HP, probably the same.

Is that a guess or is it documented? I need the facts and a link.

EDIT: It's also a shame that the video card is weak as hell. I'm going to pass for now. When I can buy a regular laptop for $600 with Radeon in it......know what I mean?

You are stretching it too far. Tablet PCs are never meant for 3D games. To save the battery for long opertion time, they have to use low power graphic chips as well as CPUs. I am pretty sure they can handle video decently though, because streamed video playing is part of the design goal of the tablet PC.

You remind me of a guy trying to sell a $600 PDA saying it's the latest and greatest, What a joke.- LMAO!!!!!! And if it's not meant for gaming why is the HP/Compaq one have a Geforce 2 Go 100?!?! DUH!!!!!

ummmm....did you ever consider looking at the link above????
Sorry I missed it. Kind of like your For Sale thread - LMAO

These suckers are awesome. Problem with splurging on one of these now is that you become an early adopter. Prices are going to get HAMMERED within the next six months more so than months 6 and onward. Look at plasma screens which have been reduced from $10k to $3k within what seems like minutes.

These are definitely the future. Problem is, it's not the future yet. Still the present.

I'd definitely splurge if money was not as much of a factor as it is for some though Fill us in on how it is when you get in Merlink. I think the premium is relatively low for this type of new technology since it is really not all that revolutionary. It really just is an uber-PDA.
