still waiting for these states to put forth a non-religious argument in opposition to gay marriage.

Nearly all of the conservative opponents in these forums have been telling us that opposition is not religious, so I'm wondering if the elected officials now scrambling to argue against this ruling will actually find some argument, sans religion.

But, I think in their hearts, these are people that hate America and our freedom.

So here's a serious question, absolutely no troll intended. I'd like serious replies to this. Given the decision, what should happen if a gay couple goes to a minister, priest, etc to have said clergy perform their nuptials and said clergy refuses on religious grounds?

The answer is nothing other than the couple wanting to marry having to find another person to perform the ceremony. A priest/minister/rabbi/clergy person can refuse to marry any couple they don't want to without any repercussions.

Remember, getting married does not require any religion any longer, hasn't for decades. Justices of the peace, magistrates, judges, clerks of court (in some instances), and a few other groups/persons, which vary by state, can marry couples, no religion needed.

of course you can also acquire an internet ordination in a matter of minutes and legally marry anyone. I guess you would have to say that is still "religion," ...but come on.

Word in from our CNN field reporter is that an ISIS flag has been spotted at a Gay Pride parade...

"Let's get a picture up on the screen for our viewers!"

This just in! CNN mistakes black flag with dildos and butt plugs on it for an ISIS flag and then puts it on national television.

As far as CNN is concerned, both are after your ass!

this is hilarious, they just won the right to marry each other and think a proper celebration is to fly a flag with huge dildos and butt plugs on it

an ISIS flag would be less offensive than this

Why do the gay people feel a need to display this type of crap? I really would like to know. That and all the other shit that goes on at these parades is what hurts their cause.

You'll see a lot worse in any St Patrick's Day Parade, but who's arguing you take rights away from the Irish over it?

If you were an American, of course, and understood the nature of its founding, you would know that any bigoted asshole can be offended by anything. For this reason the founders insured that you have no rights not to be offended. They wanted to insure that you could be as offended as your imbecility allows, with the proviso that you can't prevent others from obliging you.

Not where I'm from.

I have never seen anything close to a flag like that or the crazy crap they do in San Francisco pride parade. That was / is disgusting.

I don't care what they do, but I wish they would keep it to themselves.

Well when they run around and act like @ssholes and get treated like @ssholes, then too bad. They are getting what they deserve.

LOL this is getting good! that's it ban ALL MARRIAGE! wooo!

The guy cites the bible in justifying why he won't issue marriage licenses anymore, and then claims that he's not mixing religion and government.

Why is consensual sex illegal in public?

Why is nudity illegal?

Why is kissing or making out illegal in public?

Does it hurt anyone? How did these bans come about?

When we disagreed with Bush v. Gore and got f'ed up our collective 6's with that decision, did we once say just get rid of the court?

What a nutter.. I'm amazed such stupidity exists in America, much less manifests itself in a Governor.. but I guess we shouldn't be surprised.. we got a President who misunderestimated everything.

That is genuinely how many right-wingers think. When the SCOTUS makes a ruling that aligns with right-wing preferences, it's a great day for freedom. But when the ruling aligns with left-wing preferences, "the court is legislating from the bench and must be eliminated."

That depends on what you mean by what they deserve. You are free to try to offend them as you are offended but since the whole purpose of your point was to criticize their offensiveness it hardly seems rational to turn around and do exactly what you criticize them for doing. You can't, however, take the law in your own hands based on some personal opinion as to who deserves what like a vigilante.

I believe that if you demonize people of some stereotype long enough and hard enough, as I believe gay people have experienced at the hands of 'loving Christians' that you might just want to be offensive back. The only way to end this childish tit for tat, in my opinion, is to take on the suffering and suffer it without reacting. Don't react to what you see as offensive behavior because it is caused by and a reaction to being offended and your reaction just makes it worse. It is very hard to overcome self hate projected on the other because we self justify every kind of evil in the world.

Then I don't think they are truly conservatives, although I know most will vehemently disagree with me.

I've always viewed the religious right as an unfortunate subspecies who's views are unfortunately assumed to be held by all conservatives.

There are quite a few counties in Alabama that are either refusing or just being obstinate about it according to this article. Plus, by visiting AL.com, you get an extra added benefit of seeing what baffling stuff Roy Moore is currently spewing. Here's a good one:

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has fought against legalizing gay marriage, told CNN on Friday that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to make same-sex marriage legal nationwide was worse than the Court's 19th century decision to uphold racial segregation.

Yeah... I don't really know what to say.
