That is also inappropriate. I didn't mean to imply it was only gays. It just that these "pride" parades are so much in your face and that thing they have in San Francisco has to be the worst I have ever heard of. They should be arrested from the pictures I have seen. Is it in the Folsom Street or something... ?? Horrible!

Why do you hate America?

serious question. This is an extremely anti-American, anti-Constitution perspective that you display.

Why, because their values are different from yours? That's mighty fascist of you.

Righties criticize the left for trying to ban things they dislike, e.g., the Lee flag. You provide a great example of how this also applies on the right. You try to prohibit things that offend you rather than growing up and taking responsibility for your life. Don't want to see (whatever) on TV? Change the channel. Don't like abortions? Don't have one. Don't like gay marriage? Don't marry someone of the same sex. Don't like the antics on "Folom" (sic) street? Stay away. Be an adult, take charge of your life.

As my .sig says, if you never see anything in your community that offends you, you aren't living in a free society.

I presume you also feel similarly about Firearm rights? don't like them don't buy them?

Where I see this going now is with so called freedom religious rights.
States will push for religious right laws, and that will be the true test of whether or not the religious right are truly concerned about their religious freedoms, or if in fact they simply despise gay people and want them to have no rights or acceptance in society what so ever.

If states were to pass laws protecting religious rights with allowing the church and the business owner to legally refuse to take part in a SS wedding, what then?

Lets say the LGBT community goes along with religious freedom laws, as kind of a compromise, which would still allow SS couples to marry.
The only thing would be SS couples might have to shop around to find a gay friendly photographer, baker, and a gay friendly church or gay friendly civil judge to perform their SS marriage. But they still would be allowed to legally marry.

I would think if the LGBT community allowed that compromise, to accept the passing of so called religious freedom protection laws in states wishing to pass such laws, that such laws and the LGBT community acceptance of such laws, would silence the religious right and allow them to accept the reality of SS marriage.
But we all know even that compromise would never satisfy the religious right.

If they had there religious freedom laws passed, the religious right would still insist the battle against SS marriage not over.
And that would prove to everyone that the religious right have no intension ever allowing any hint of SS marriage in society.

What the religious right would do is continue what they have always done in the past.
To attempt to hijack the issue of marriage, then define and re-define marriage as a totally religious matter.

This is exactly how the religious right operates, has always operated.
To hijack social issues, proclaim ownership, then re-define them into religious issues.
The issue of marriage is no different for them.
No matter what compromises and laws legalized to protect religious freedoms, the religious right would never be happy as long as one SS couple could legally marry.

Next on this religious right agenda will be pressing religious freedom laws state by state.
Just wait and see.
They will say, "if we only had our religious protections, then we would be content."
And if society takes them at their word and passed such laws, their anti SS marriage fight will continue on unto death.
So do not be fooled.
They want it all.

They want to hijack every single social issue in society, from marriage thru environmental, and then take ownership so that they can re-define society to fit their religious beliefs.
Their belief of an all inclusive fundamentalist society based and ruled solely by religion.
Exactly as the terrorist insist on doing over in the Middle East.
And you thought ISIS was our only terrorist threat.

These religious fundies want it all.
And they will kill anyone with their bibles until all of society can see it their way.
And only their way.

So what is next?
Stay tuned.
And you heard it here first.

Does the constitution require anyone to buy or own firearms?

Shit, I don't think the internet has enough bandwidth to contain the strawmen being unleashed the next ~months.

This is going to be a dumpster fire of an online "discussion."

You are an idiot. Is Folsom Street a public street? Yes. They should not be having sex in public. They should be arrested for indecent exposure.

If you think this crap on a public street is acceptable then you are also a sick puppy.

of course they do.

You're just very ignorant, or simply lack the ability to obtain perspective outside your teeny tiny bubble..

That is funny. You sound more like Moonbeam every day.

Do you participate in the Folsom Street Festival? I think you do.

Yup, sounds like he's got your number too. The rest of us can always tell a bigot. We just can't tell him much.

Normal people can insist on a level of respectfulness on public streets without losing their minds as you certainly have. A level of excess is always to be expected when the lid comes off of centuries of repression and bigotry. You will want to revel in all the disgust you can stick your nose into while you can. In time the excessive behavior that results from being outcasts will pass as folk finally begin to feel accepted, no thanks to bigots like you.

ROFL! I seem to have hit a nerve. What makes you the one true arbiter of what is and is not acceptable? Sorry son, but your personal morality is not some law of nature. It's just the result of your lifelong puritan brainwashing. Your blend of hangups and quirks may work for you, but they are just as offensive to others as the Folsom Street antics are to you.

Different strokes for different folks, my friend. The people of San Francisco don't share your puritan idiosyncrasies. You have no right to try to force them into burkas.

And here we go SMFH!!!! Saw this on local news this morning. I've got news for Ken Paxton, his BS will not succeed and in the end he will have no choice but to follow the law of the land.

Sheesh. Well, it's to be expected, given the region's reaction to the Civil Rights Act of '64.

Sometimes I think the conservative religious base wants nothing less than to institute a Christian theocratic style of government.

I just wonder how pcgeek is so familiar with whatever antics take place during Gay Pride parades on Folsom St. if he hates them so much? Much too familiar to be explained by simple curiosity.

This is absolutely driven by religion. As a moderate conservative I find it to be so hypocritical. Most conservatives (moderates as well) I know would feel the same way as they consider the rule of law and following it to be of great importance. The same is true of the US Constitution which clearly states that all US Citizens should be given equal treatment under the Constitution and laws of the land. There should also be a separation of church and state which Paxton has ignored in his direction to those who issue marriage licenses.

Protip: If you can not perform your job due to religious beliefs you should find another line of work that allows you to follow your religion without violating the law of the land and the rights of US Citizens.

Its like how some rightwingers have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of sexual acts between gay men, far more then most homosexuals do actually.

I have a feeling poor little pcgeek has been the caboose on the mantrain far too often and feels left out.

Given the argument to legalize gay marriage was based on "liberty" then I suspect the polygamists are next to use the same argument at the supreme court.

***I support gay marriage.... But I imagine a polygamist can use the same argument to justify what they want.

Any thoughts on that?

I think it's more based on gender equality than liberty.

it's an unequal distribution of rights for a man to be able to marry a woman but a woman not to be able to marry a woman... not that I have anything against polygamy, but I'm not sure the same argument can be applied.

The Alabama Supreme Court has just issued an order to probate judges to stop issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples for 25 days.

It looks like Roy Moore and his GOP cronies on the court are going to drag this out as long as possible, kicking and screaming the entire way. Aside from inflicting further embarrassment on our state, he has effectively put a giant "Sue Me!" sign on the courthouse door. For a judiciary that is chronically underfunded and barely able to function, that is the last thing that our state needs.

Ooh, I wonder if he's going to be removed from office for a second time. Would that be a record?

That is explicitly the goal of a significant number of people.

Yea Christians believe none of that. Maybe fundamentalist Christians but they live in the middle of nowhere in the south anyway. More of the same Southern vs Northern culture clashing on the internet when in reality you guys are separated by 1,000 miles.

Really got your panties in a bunch over people you've never met huh. Maybe take a break from the internet it seems to have addled your brain.

As much as I would like that, the cynical part of me believes that is why he did not sign the order himself, according to the article. It has his fingerprints all over it though.
