No, liberals are just so hypocritical...begging the government and conservatives to "stay out of their bedrooms" while at the same breath asking SCOTUS to legislate what can legally happen in their bedroom.

The amount of liberal double-talking is so astounding that I can fill an encyclopedia with it.

...and you have officially broken the logic meter.

Do you have any idea what a horse's ass you sound like?

Or one could just say "Ooh, look kids, a parade!" And then be aghast at what you have found a vantage spot for your kids to watch. That actually happened to my wife and I in New Orleans, but as we both hate parades we said "ooh, look, a bazillion people" and left without even knowing it was a Gay Pride Parade until the next day. (Instead we went to tour some old grave yards and, when we told Mr. "Youhavetostaywiththegroup" that we weren't with the group but were on our own, we were told that it wasn't safe to be in a freakin' New Orleans grave yard in the middle of the afternoon because people would climb over the wall and rob tourists. Now THAT was offensive.)

The Shriner event happened in a booked ballroom in a public hotel. There are tons of things that happen behind closed doors in public hotels that I don't want my grandkids to experience until they are old enough to process them in a healthy, adult way, at which point I'm perfectly happy for them to find someone they love to use, abuse and misuse to their mutual hearts' content. Disney's Gay Days is a similar thing - many people show up without any inkling that this is going on, and people are acting in ways that should absolutely not happen in public. I suspect most gay people here would agree. If you have no respect for yourself, at least have some respect for other people.

For the record, I spent a fair amount of my teen years in private S&M clubs and at "parties", so I've seen a lot of naked people in, um, unusual situations and garb, in pretty much every possible permutation. I'm not at all personally offended by anything I might see in a Gay Pride parade or in a Shriner's, um, fundraiser. I am disturbed that it included Shriners - I mean, ew, there's an image I really didn't need - but I am not offended. Even though you have pretty much ruined public hetero cunilingus for me.

The Shriner incident was an example, like Mardi Gras, to point out the hypocrisy of pointing fingers at gay folks for being 'offensive' while ignoring heterosexual folks who can be just as 'offensive' if not more so.

As for "oh kids, look, a parade, puleese. Pride days/parades are advertised months in advance. You don't just stumble on a pride parade. Having attended Vancouver's parade more than a few times over the past several decades I can say that there are an awful lot of people with families at these celebrations and everyone seems to have a lot of fun. As I said, in order to be offended you have work really, really, really hard at it.

Correct. Offensive is in the eye of the beholder. Your devotion to posting half-witted noise is offensive. If you instead typed your empty sloganeering into Notepad -- and then deleted it -- nobody would be offended. On the contrary, we would be happy.

See how that works?

They are on a public street. I agree that they have the right to do what they will as willing adults. However their rights end when it collides with my rights to walk down a public street and be exposed to these illegal acts. Public fornication, Blowjobs, indecent exposure, and God only knows what else.

You libs spout this ( Your rights end when it interferes with someone elses rights) all the time except when it doesn't fit with your beliefs.

It is on a public street.

I have never seen public sex (or even nudity really) at a pride event. I lived off the route of one for many years in Chicago and been to (and in) the one in SF for the last two years.

Folsom Street Fair is a separate event. When the fair began nearly 30 years ago the area the area was all warehouses, industrial, and vacant land. Anybody who lives there now knew the deal well in advance. It's actually very popular and draws upwards of half a million people annually.

Wow! You just went full retard!

What a horrible Christian you are.

Scratch that...what a typical Christian you are. People like you are exactly why I stopped being religious.

hmm, it was a private event at their temple or whatever, and the only reason it was reported is because 2 reporters gained entrance, somehow. The use of the word "public" in the phrase "public cunnilingus" is very disingenuous.

Sounds like a kick-ass party.

fwiw, I don't want to see any of that shit, straight or gay, on an actual public street. It wouldn't horrify or shame me as it would some of the prudes around here--I just don't want to see it.

And it is generally illegal in most places.

Thank you. I feel exactly the same.

yeah, I don't understand the complaint. There is absolutely no way that you accidentally stumble onto a pride parade or that street fair. No effing way....unless pcgeek is one of those cops that keeps finding himself here:

sure, but I've never seen anything as offensive as you claim, going to those places. Just saying.

I did recently see an old naked dude walking down market, early sunday morning, with nothing but a sock on his cock. I thought...strange.

Didn't give me nightmares, though. It's one thing to grow skin and just not give a shit about things that really have nothing to do with you. :\

The point is, and you damn well know it, to be offended at what goes on at a pride parade, you have to really, really, really work at it.

btw, the Shriner incident happened in a public hotel.

It was a public hotel, in a Private Event that was closed off to the Public. That is why the reporters had to sneak in.

And no you don't have to work at seeing this crap. Just turn and walk down a public street where this is happening. And by the way we are not talking about All Pride Parades. Just the events like Folsom Street etc.

Is someone making you look at and/or think about what some folks are doing?

And, where is your condemnation of things like Mardi Gras or Shriner's conventions.

"On Jan. 25 [2001], Winnipeg’s Khartum Temple held its 22nd annual “V.I.P. Gentlemen’s Dinner” fundraiser at the Garden City Inn. Three hundred to 400 men threw down $75 each to attend the function, the menu of which offered the traditional staples of a Shriner’s diet: steak dinner, open bar and — nude dancing chicks. What the Shriners hadn’t anticipated, however, was the attendance of two reporters from the Winnipeg Free Press, who witnessed the drunken goings-on and ran a series of stories that described public cunnilingus and nude hookers. The bad press has stirred Winnipeg into a froth of controversy, leaving local Shriners with the unmistakable stench of scandal.

I just thought they wore funny hats. Sounds like the best party ever.

Both hotel staff and guests were exposed to various aspects of this and they, for the most part, had no choice in the matter although I guess the staff could have quit on the spot and the hotel guests that were bothered could have paid for a 2nd hotel.

And no you don't have to work at seeing this crap. Just turn and walk down a public street where this is happening. And by the way we are not talking about All Pride Parades. Just the events like Folsom Street etc.

Once again, you need to make a real effort to get somewhere to look for something to be offended at.

Is someone forcing you to go to that street and watch? Otherwise, you'd have to really make a serious effort to push through, or see past, the crowd in order to look for something to be offended by.

Doesn't matter. It is a public street. If found on a public street having sex or any other illegal acts you should be arrested. I don't care if you are gay or not. I was also talking specifically about events such as Folsom Street in San Francisco.

Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! The people of San Francisco seem to accept it. It's their city. So, butt out.

Which brings us back to my original post:
You try to prohibit things that offend you rather than growing up and taking responsibility for your life. Don't want to see (whatever) on TV? Change the channel. Don't like abortions? Don't have one. Don't like gay marriage? Don't marry someone of the same sex. Don't like the antics on "Folom" (sic) street? Stay away. Be an adult, take charge of your life.

As my .sig says, if you never see anything in your community that offends you, you aren't living in a free society.
Nobody is forcing you to visit Folsom street. You get to make the choice about whether you see these antics. In short, if this offends you, it's because YOU made a choice to be offended. Too bad. You are not entitled to impose your morality on others.

You libs spout this ( Your rights end when it interferes with someone elses rights) all the time except when it doesn't fit with your beliefs.
And you cons wail against the nanny state ... except when you want Mommy to protect you from things that offend your delicate sensibilities. And, by God, you will be offended by things that don't really affect you, no matter how you have to contort yourself to justify your offense.

Gay marriage is a perfect example of this. It affects nobody but the gay couples who marry, but the right-wing Chicken Littles are howling like it's the end of the world, spouting endless asinine nonsense about all the ways it's going to hurt them. They're a flock of frickin' drama queens and outrage junkies.

In short, I have bad news for you. You have no right to never be offended. If you never see anything that offends you, you're not living in a free society. Why do you hate freedom?

I'm gay and I get offended by the parade and I guess embarrassed for 'my people.' I understand that there are folks into leather jockstraps, leashes, and whips while being led around by a man in full leathers (except of course his ass is uncovered) but why must their 'pride' include taking that out of the bedroom where it belongs and showing it off in a parade?

I admit though that I've always railed against the overt sexuality that is common in my community. Indeed it took until my late forties to meet a guy of the same age who wanted to settle down. Wild oat sowing is common among my specie. Yes it's that way for straights too, but I'm unaware of any hetero parades where sexuality is so blatantly displayed.

The large gay pride parade that's local to us is just a block away and we used to go every year, but it's become such an assault to the ears. Beside the noisemakers in the crowd, rolling amps with speakers go by blaring music at skull-splitting volumes. Plus the public drunkenness at 10:30AM was sad to see too.

But yay marriage!

Edit: 2009 meeting gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom (at our gay pride parade) who in 2004 as mayor of San Francisco defiantly issued gay marriage licenses. He and others started this fight and it's finally the law of the land!

I don't get " all worked up" about much. I don't want to see it as it is wrong to do these types of things in public. Gay or straight it doesn't matter. I am speaking from the stance that lots of gay people seem to have a desire to put their life style in every bodies face and demand that we see it ( Public Streets ).

I really do not care what they do to and with each other in Private.

I wish more people had your attitude. Congratulations on your adult relationship. I think most of those with opposing views ( attacking me actually ) are just show boats, PC correct riders.

No, its because you are simply too fucking stupid to understand what others are saying. You should have spent more time getting an education instead of trying to apply your fairy tales to adults, so fuck off.
