Someone was getting all bunched up that they might see a man with his shirt off or in a speedo at a pride event.

I decided to give him something to get more offended at.

That isn't the truth at all.

He suggested that the faux-ISIS sex toy flag (and other things he considers indecent) at Pride events is harmful to the gay rights cause, presumably including marriage. Which of course is disingenuous horse shit.

I didn't suggest anything. I said what I know to be factual. Do you think that the things going on at these events helps their cause? If you do then that is disingenuous horse shit.

Acts like that happen everywhere whatever the gender mix, get used to it. You get a woody from looking and are ashamed of it? Or is it something that happens just in your imagination? Pick a topic some one gives a shit about.

Obviously a lot of you give a crap about it because you keep posting.

It seems like a number of various government officials are refusing to honor the SCOTUS' ruling:

Governor Beshear has released a statement on county clerks who refuse to issue same-sex marriage licenses in response to the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage bans.

Beshear emphasizes that clerks do not have to agree with the ruling, but reminds clerks that they took an oath to uphold the constitution.

Clerk Kim Davis is standing firm on her decision to stop issuing marriage licenses, despite dozens of protesters who gathered outside the courthouse Tuesday.

Casey Davis, the clerk in Casey County, Kentucky, says he won't resign and he'd rather go to jail than issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple. None have yet come in to get one, he said.

Fortunately it seems at least a few are relenting under pressure:

Lawrence County Clerk Chris Jobe, who also serves as president of the Kentucky County Clerks Association, told The Courier-Journal in Louisville that he would resume issuing licenses for fear of being removed from office. Several other Kentucky clerks made similar concessions.

I hope the ones that don't are removed from office

Newspapers said that a man from Montana inspired by the decision of Supreme Court of legalizing gay marriage, apply for a marriage license so that he can legally wed his second wife. America, we are doomed.

All bigots are terrified that catastrophe will happen if their bigotry dies. This fear of the end has been with us for thousands of years as humanity has outgrown endless notions of stupidity. You have a mental illness and what you fear is remembering how you got it.

I think what they are really afraid of is that nothing will happen.

Gay marriage happens and its not the end of the world, everyone carries on with their lives and all the moaning and wailing and gnashing of teeth was for naught.

Yep. Like it or hate it, a SCOTUS decision has the effect of Constitutional law. Any government official refusing to honor it should be fired, immediately. And any government officials refusing to take this step should be fired. I absolutely hate Kelo v. New London, consider it one of the worst decisions ever, and unlike gay marriage it potentially has disastrous effects on other people, but I would honor it because it's the law. If I am not willing to honor it, then I have no right to a job with that power.

I think what they are really afraid of is that nothing will happen.

That's already happened. Most of our nation had already legalized same sex marriage. Nothing bad happened.

This is shit we should have learned by kindergarten: be nice, be fair.

Huh, didn't think who were dumb enough to believe that could operate computers, how surprising. Amazing how good technology has gotten when someone with room temperature IQ can post dumbshit on the internet.

We did learn that in kindergarten. And then we went to recess and played "Smear the Queer." It can be tricky to break out of that mindset.
Jesus, where did you grow up? I grew up in a very rural county in the Tennessee Bible Belt, a county which literally passed a law a few years back that banned gay people from living there, and we played "pick it up and die." Your point is taken though - queer was the worst insult we had.

Portland, Oregon, a liberal enclave and home of roughly 72% of all the world's lesbians prior to 1987. This was in the early 90s, so it wasn't like "queer" was some new word that had come around; I think kids had just gotten used to the notion of a game called "Smear the Queer" without paying any thought as to why that might be considered bad. One of my all time embarrassing moments was seeing my mother rip into a group of kids at my afterschool care when she heard one of them say that. Conformity is so much more important than standing up for what's right when you're a kid, you know? Niceness be damned. Some people just never grow out of that. And it makes sense; going against the status quo is inherently uncomfortable.

- Louie Gohmert:
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/far-right-flee-america-god-destroys-us-gay-marriage

,... but Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. Which Bible did this guy read??

I won't attempt a defense of most of the far-righters you mentioned here.

Their idiocy reminds me of many of the arguments made by pro-lifers... arguments whose sheer stupidity drove me back to the pro-choice camp, because they crowded out ideas I had about it possibly being right to limit abortion.

Just to provide some answer to your last question.. these are passages that are being given by the "Bible thumpers:"
God, not government, created marriage. Indeed, God defined marriage in the very first book of the Bible (Genesis 2:23-24) as a sacred union between one man and one woman. In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus Christ reaffirmed this Biblical definition of marriage. Jesus said, “‘Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.'” (Matthew 19:4-6)
To be clear.. I'm not attempting an argument against SSM myself by using scripture. Just providing some info to answer Newell Steamer's question.

I can see Dem election campaign staff throwing parties right about now. Not for the decision, but for the sheer magnitude of ammo they are being handed for 2016.

Nothing riles the religioulous partisans like a sacred cow getting tipped. Chalk this up as another reason why I think the GOTP is going to be brutalized next year. These guys are pretty much wrong about everything, and they react like this when American principles win the day.
I hope those working to get a Dem elected will be confident enough, after crap like this, to work for getting a better candidate than Hillary Clinton.

I agree with most of her policy positions, but like most Americans, can't trust the words coming out of her mouth.

People who have hijacked the Church may not be so tolerant. The Bible is full of forgiveness, love thy neighbor and give people a chance. Even the Pope has spoken about tolerance and love is more important than hot button issues like gays & abortion. I'm too lazy to link to it however its been spoken about several times by him.
Very much agree!
