I'm stuck where I am... cable is my only option - or go to Bellsouth who are even worse (and no cheaper).

is there a money-back guarantee if the service is not up to par within a time-frame? I read that there is a $99 termination fee.

I'm only paying $21.99 a month for 6 months as it is.
I was told the same thing in Novemenber, was paying 24.99 for 1.5/256, was signing up for another year, was told it was 24.99 now for pro, so I said sure, last week I finally got a bill that had my dsl charges on it, it was 39.99 for the last 3 months. When I called the rep said you have to have the 99.99 phone package to get the pro package for 24.99, needless to say I was pretty pissed, and after an hour of one manager after another the best they did was put me back on the 1.5/256 for 26.99 and took 30 off this huge bill. If I didn't hate the local cable company so much (they like to mail{post marked} thier bills after late fees are already applied) I'd switch to cable, they have 3/512 for 34.99 w/cable service.

That's correct...I called them and they said $26.99 is all they can offer me because I was loyal customer.:| My contract was done and told them that I'm thinking of dropping them as my provider...still they wouldn't budge. My last try was with their retention dept...I tried saying the same thing and all they would offer was the lousy $26.99.

Was almost angry...asked them for anything lower than their initial offer. Told the cs that I have been a dsl subscriber since the very beginning...when they were still pacific bell then.

Wooh! Out of the blue, CS said he can do $19.99 for me. Never heard of that rate before but I said I'll take it. Will see if my next bill will reflect this price.

You were lied to, there is no package to have the lower prices. The only thing you might need to sign up for is LD, and they have a LD package for $2 month which still saves you money over paying the $10 more without the LD package.

So the dsl modem costs $50 and then you get a $50 rebate, or does it cost $100 and then after the $50 rebate it's $50? (I know you have to pay the $12.95 shipping).

I noticed the thread on DSLR discussing the new prices, called the phone # someone mentioned, and got my 3Mbit service re-rated to $18 without any hassles. Existing customers owe it to themselves to try and obtain the lowest rate

This time I tried the DSL number and asked about re-rating, the rep put me on hold to look over my account. Originally he had stated they would probably have to wait until about 1 month before it ended. When he came back, again I was told that it is only for "New Online Orders" tried to talk up how great the PRO package is that I have. Also mentioned that they only do 6 month subscriptions over the phone.

I had been on the DSL Ezpress @ $19.99 a month with a year contract (which would end in March for me). Called 1-877-722-3755 and navigated the voice menu to "change service." Was re-rated to $12.99 per month for a year within 5 minutes...No hassle, no begging...

This was in the Chicagoland area...

Called a few minutes ago and they would not give me the 17.99 Pro upgrade from the regular I currently have. Said $21.99 was the lowest they would go.

It depends where you are. Apparently the one in Mid-West allows current customers rerate but California Pacbell doesn't offer that. (They are DIFFERENT companies, my CSR claimed) I wish I live in Chicago for the first time in my life.

This offer might extend to existing customers in a near future but who knows. Please keep calling to CSRs to see when it opens. Please report asap so that more people can benefit.

Thanks.

Hmm, I should call them up then and tell them to put me on that 12.99 plan. Thanks for letting me know I can do that.

my contract expired and i got charged $50.99 for my DSL. THis is in CA, so when I saw this thread, I immediately got the lower rate of $17.99/month. I will call them back tonight to get it adjusted though.

Wow, less than 24 hours later the upgrade's already in place - I'm clocking 300Kb/s down, 51Kb/s up. All for less than $20/mo! Thanks to the OP!

If your account is eligible for an upgrade, you'll be able to avoid the hassle of dealing with the phone reps (I got refused on the phone, yet was able to upgrade from Express to Pro online without any problems.)

After havingf called several times they refused to renew or upgrade my account. I tried this <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://swot.sbc.com/swot/DSLRenewalQual.do?DCMP=att_upgrade">https://swot.sbc.com/swot/DSLRenewalQual.do?DCMP=att_upgrade</a> site and upgraded to DSL PRO for $17.99 for a full year. I still had 6 months left on my previous year. I did have trouble getting it to take my order, though. After telling me I was eligible, it asked for my account ID and password but kept saying it was not valid and my phone # did not have DSL, duh. I just reentered it about 5 or 6 times and it finally worked and accepted the order and gave me a confirmation order number. Sweet.

RANT:
Just my luck, I was eligible to get the loyal customer upgrade to DSL pro package $17.99 ($2 more than my DSL express)

I was getting constant 1.2Mbps/225Kbps before with my DSL express
With my new DSL Pro, I'm getting 750Kbps/400Kbps!!!

What an Upgrade, only $2 more per month for half the rate I had <SARCASM>
Chatted with CS and he said everything checked out fine, so my case is being "escalated"

What's next SBC/AT&T? Pay $3 more to get 56K rate?
This deal is now YMMV (if it happens to me, it might happen to you too - use Speedtest people!)

No you can't get that rate for Dial-Up, only for new customers, but you do qualify for 26k for $49 for the first 6 months.

Good deal. It makes me hate the fact that my home is out of range of any form of broadband connection. (DSL, Cable, ect.)
