You might be too far as far as distance for a 3m package if you are trying upgrade link and it so not giving you 3m package at $18mo.

RERATES: if you are eligible for 3m speed package (distance wise), you might be able to use this to upgrade to a 3m package at $18mo LINK

New customers needing web ordering instructions for $13/$18 plans, can find it HERE.

Please do not PM/IM for link explanations, they are self explanatory. As posted million times before, any issues/problems with existing AT&T family of companies of DSL lines can be answered HERE[/quote]

Lastly!!! Official AT&T DSL tech support available HERE!!!, you will need to establish an account on that board to post in SBC Direct forum. Anyone who ever had to deal with support guys there will admit that there is NO better option for support - Not Phone, not email and etc...

trying to upgrade the inlaws connection to pro as they are on dsl express right now

tried hitting https://swot.sbc.com/swot/DSLRenewalQual.do?DCMP=att_upgrade a few times and received that same error
please contact blah blah blah

calling them now to see if i can upgrade the speed and save money at the same time

edit: inlaws were originally paying 22.49 a month for dsl express
csr would only give 19.99 a month for pro

they got a bump up in speed and are paying a few dollars less
thanks op

if anyone wants to try to call a number for re-rate, you can always try
1-877-U-ASK-ATT and give them promo code: AM1612 - no guarantees though

question: can you add freedomlink access to SBC DSL accounts? so, you can have wifi hotspots access? i thought i remembered you could do that for like $2-3 more per month.

My contract expired this month. I got an email offer to upgrade to the Pro 3Mbps plan @ 17.99, but the online upgrade would not work. I figured it was because I have one of the original setups from 1999 where they gave everyone a static IP. The renewal page only offered me a static IP plan. I called in to get the upgrade and was informed I'm too far from the CO to get 3Mbps. They'd have to "reprovision" me to the remote portal which is only 1100' away. My service would be down ten days to do this! I asked for the 12.99 1.5Mbps plan and got the "new subscribers only" spiel. CSR said not even the managers can override this policy anymore. The CSR did explain that if I canceled my DSL, I could reapply online as a new subscriber after a few days. I'd have to buy the new modem (FAR, $13 S&H), but I could then get either the basic 12.99 plan or the Pro plan. I could have service back within 10 days, the same as if they did the "reprovision" of my existing line. My dialup account and email address would continue active during the DSL outage (30-day grace period for cancellations).

The bottom line is, if you're an existing subscriber and want the $12.99 rate, you can get it if you don't mind using dialup for about 10 days. Cancel your DSL, wait 3-4 days to reapply, then you'll have DSL again in another 5-6 days. CSR said to apply before noon to avoid losing a day in the order processing.

I literally just upgraded my service to the Pro plan and had no problems.

Went to http://att.com/pro, entered my phone #, said I was eligible for the upgrade to the Pro plan @ $17.99/month for the first 12 months, asked me to confirm that I am the account holder and that was it.

Would have been fine with the $12.99 basic plan, but didn't want any disruption in my service... need my WoW fix. Currently paying $14.99 for basic so $3.00 more for the Pro plan isn't that big a deal.

I'm not all knowledgable, but for those of you running your DSL on copper, you may want to check out something called DPG or "project pronto".

Apparantly AT&T has dsl running on fiber lines in certain areas - a tech was out at my house last week fixing a phone problem and was telling me that I could switch to the dsl $27.99/mo plan and keep my speeds at 6 .

The DSL contratc i have now is set to expire next friday, so if some of you have dsl that is on copper and you have ****** connections, you may want to call up your CSR and ask them if they can get you on the fiber lines!

I couldn't do the upgrade cuz my basic service is connected to the CO 11,000' away. When they first installed it in 1999, I was 4700' from the switch. Dunno when they changed it. Now they've added remote portals to service the higher speeds, but they couldn't switch my service without a 10-day outage.

Special note to anyone upgrading from an Alcatel 1000 modem to one of the new DSL modems (I got a Siemens 4100 with my self-installation kit). My old setup had a splitter outside the house by the drop, with separate voice and data lines going to different RJ11 jacks inside the house. The new modem would not sync when plugged into the data jack.

Here's what the problem was: On the old modems, the signal lines are wired to yellow and black on the RJ11 for the data connection. On the new modems, you have to move these to the red and green wires on the RJ11 (Y->R, B->G). They had to escalate my trouble ticket to the Maintenance Dept before I got a tech who knew what was going on. Once I fixed the jack, the modem worked fine.

Well, it's not really 12.99/month in the end. I've called numerous DSL providers and they all require you to have phone service through them as well. Seeing as how I have no need for a land line, I went with Comcast...

49.99/mo for 3 down 378 up
(actual 5 down 450k up as per performance.toast.net tests)

and also got digital cable premium package with HBO and Video on demand included.

pwnage.

Yup, POTS is a prerequisite for DSL. My local Charter cable is offering an "All in one" deal with digital cable, Internet, and VoIP for $99/mo. Sounded too pricey to me, plus I already have DishTV with no monthly DVR charge for my old 501 DVR.

The cheapest landline service from SBC in Los Angeles is $5.70/mo for measured service. Taxes and fees will bring that to about $12/mo. You could then add the basic $13/mo DSL for a combined total of appx $25/mo. Installation of the POTS would cost over $100, though, for a new subscriber, more if you need wiring.

POTS ???

Did you upgrade from prior service. My sister's SBC modem is a SpeedStream (4 LED) model and I think she should see if they can provide a new one. Suggestions?

POTS = "Plain Old Telephone Service" = your basic landline. They hit you hard for initial setup fee if you don't already have landline service. And yes, I already had a landline from SBC, though I'm thinking of downgrading it to measured service since I don't make many local calls.

You might as well get a new DSL modem. It's $49 with the DSL order, with a MIR for the full amount. ATT paid the rebate within a couple of weeks. Taxes + S&H on the modem+splitter kit add another $12+, so it's your call if you want it for a spare.

For those concerned about the one year contract:
If you want out of your contract you just have to get someone's address that is too far away from the CO for DSL. I had had DSL from SBC and all I had to do to get out of my contract was move my service from my appartment to a friends house outside the DSL distance requirement and they let you out of your contract.

Man, you really sumthin'

Really sumthin is one name. Liar is another. Where do people get the idea that lying to companies is an exemption in the right and wrong rules?

I've been using SBC DSL in Central IL for 1.5yrs now, and for gaming, there's nothing else like it. Pings are consistent regardles of time of day, and transfer speeds are rock steady.
