Screensaver crashes computer

Hello,

Im running Windows 98 and am having a problem with My screensaver.
This is what happens.

After 10 minutes my screensaver comes on.
"Flying through Space" the stahdard Windows screensaver.

At this point my monitor turns off too.
The computer seems to go into a Suspended mode and there is a lot of vertical lines on the screen.
Moving the mouse or typing the keyboard doesn't gets it out of this mode.
The only way out is to restart the PC from the case button.

In Display Properties the Suspend and Turn off HardDisk settings aren't enabled.

Can anyone help me?

You aren't overclocking are you?

Updated video drivers?

Windows update has a few patches for coming out of suspend and what not, give those a shot too...

Does this happen if you try anything else graphic intensive?

Personally I would turn off the screensaver, and just have your monitor turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity. Screensavers are generally unnecessary problem-makers

True, but that still doesn't say much for system stability if its cause crashes...

Im not overclocking.
My system is;
AMD XP 1800
448MB RAM
MSI K7T Turbo
Leadtek GeForce2 Ultra 64MB
Sony Trinitron Multiscan E220 17"

Im running th NVidia 43.45 drivers.

I dont think its the screensaver.
I set my screensaver to 8 minutes and the Monitor off at 15 minutes.
Under Energy Saving Features.
- "System Standby" is set to Never.
- "Turn Off Hard Disks" is set to Never.

Once the Monitor goes off this is when the system crashes/hangs.
Nothing can bring it out of this mode. Except for a Hard Reset.
