With that said, I want Dish network.

All I need now is the latest rcvr and "I like 9" promo.

I want a rcvr that has the tivo, and uhf remote....for the front room....and one basic rcvr for the bedroom.

But where is the best place to get this ?

It seems I just missed a deal on the hot deals forum....

So, like all of my other things in life, I bring this to my forum buddies.....

So what are your thoughts ?

Thx in advance

I have dish network and it is really crappy. The picture is very pixelated and the friggin signal always goes out. If you can get something like didgital cable you would be much better off. I used to have it and it is so much better.

Also they dont have nearly as many channels as say Time Warner digital cable.

I recently switched to digital cable after having DirecTV for 4 years. Reasons I switched:

- Digital cable has many more channels in my area than DirecTV. (Time-Warner)
- DirecTV did not carry my local UPN and WB stations so I had to pay my cable company $9/month for 'lifeline' cable to get the locals.
- Since DirecTV started carrying locals, they started compressing the signal so much that I noticed pixelation on occasion and often my audio would be out of sync with the video on some channels.
- Digital cable was about $4/month cheaper than I was paying for DirecTV. (complete package on both) add to that the $9 I was paying monthly for locals...
- Got tired of hanging out of my apartment window to de-snow my dish. (I live in Minnesota)
- Got tired of losing my signal when a heavy thunder/snowstorm was overhead.

There was something wrong with your setup then. I've had digital satelitte for a couple years now and I will never, ever go to any cable setup again. The problem with digital cable is that you're dealing with cable companies again... and they suck.

That being said, I'd take cable internet over dish internet for sure.

BTW - I live in Canada and I have never had to clear snow off the dish so I could get a better signal and I get lots of it... and I don't lose it during storms, either. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever lost a signal. Maybe I'm just lucky... I dunno.

My satellite TV is much better quality (both audio and video) than digital cable. I live in Canada though. Snow isn't a problem.

I live in Wisconsin and last December was a record month for snowfall. Not once did I have to clean the snow off.

I have had direct TV for 2 years now. Love it to death. Video quality is amazing, it isn't as clunky of an interface as time warner's digital cable. All local channels are there now as well and it is cheaper where I live

3 problems

1) Had several heavy rains this summer. caused the signal to go out more than I would have liked
2) My 2nd box died on me.
3)Have 3 tv's. only can have 2 boxes.

I will never go back to cable. Cable sucks where I am. Got free basic right now curtosey of my cable modem. The signal has much to be desired in relation to digital or satelitte.

I like satellite options more than digital cable. I have DirecTv and StarChoice and they both offer good quality picture and sound. I have lost some signal when a storm happens, but I still enjoy the programming more than dig cable even cause Rogers has some really lame channels on their system now.

Directtv is pretty much the King of PQ when compared to most digital cable services. The digital cable is compressed far more than the Directtv signal and it's often very slow. Directtv is nice because there is no ghosting or any other analog artifacts that would normally occur. I suggest that you look into Sony's TIVO/DIRECTTV combo Receiver. It is very nice and is under $500. I believe that there are even certain hdtv's that come with a tivo/directtv receiver built in (forgot what company though).

if you all want to waste your money than be my guest. Dish network sux and Direct TV isnt that great either (though you get a lot more channels). hell the other day a I had some of my channels go out while others still worked fine. Then the audio was echoing on some of the other channels.

I have been a Happy DISH customer for about 4 1/2 years, I live in DUCK country of Oregon. The DISH offers much more than ATT Cable here at more affordable prices and they actually TRY to keep prices raises to a minimum and compared to Cable they have. I think my price has maybe raised $2 in past 3-4 years - while my cabelized neighbor complains every year of price increases for cable (we get more channels on AT 150 than she does onher Digital Cable Package).

You might try E-Bay for a good reciever - go to their home site too - their new one, I think the 7100 or 7200 looks awfully good - huge hard drive to record on and no extra fee to do it either. I have had the Dish Player for some time and really like it (some hate it).

Happy NEW Year!

I've setup two homes with dish network (mine and my sister's), I've had one outage (5 minutes max) and she's never had one. The picture quality is supurb on my TV. You really cant' beat it for $9/mo.

I think WB/UPN are $2 extra per month. I don't find anything worth watching on either network, so I opted not to get them.

Get a good, strong signal (anything over 110 and you'll be fine), and outages are a miminum. It depends a lot on how you mount the dish. A good, solid mount point is key.

Actually I had mine installed for free by a proffesional. The fact that everytime it gets a little cloudy out and I loose half of my channels is the thing that i hate the most. I can live with the picture being pixelated since it happens with all the satellites and digital cable services. I did like the fact that i got 2 free boxes and free install for only a $40 setup fee but when i want to watch tv and the damn channels don't work then i get a little irritated.

The thing is i couldnt get digital cable until after i already signed up for a year of dish network. I pay like $50 for everything but hbo, stars, cinemax, and showtime. It wold cost me over $100 dollars to get everything and that is a little too much.

I had a scrabled picture one time and I found a hornets nest inside the dish's cone. Also you may want to check and make sure it is not obstructed by a tree and that it is pointed correctly.
