The PSU is about 4 years old. It has been running 24/7 almost everyday. It worked fine until I upgraded my rig. Before the upgrade my rig was pulling about 50% of its capacity. After the upgrade my rig used about 85% of its capacity.

Everything is fine EXCEPT the PSU is making some high pitch noise whenever under heavy load(only about 85%). I mine crypto and use my CPU for WCG so my rig is pulling about 85% all the time. The buzzing noisy is very annoying. Its so annoying that even when I am not listening to anything I put on my headphones. I tried to move my PSU outside my case so I am sure the noise is coming from the PSU.

The PSU is stable though.

I dont think RMA is a good idea. Corsair might just say my PSU passed all the tests and send back the original. And I cant afford not to run my PC for weeks while my PSU is gone.

So whenever I cant endure the noise anymore I am gonna buy a replacement. Shame on Corsair and/or Channel Well for making such low quality product.

I think high pitch noise is a sign a psu is about to die(unless it's a fan noise)

Coil whine. Known problem with many power supplies, not just Corsair. Fortunately, coil whine is not destructive, not a sign of impending failure, and is a reason to RMA the unit for a new one. Corsair's very good about RMA'ing ps's for coil whine.

Corsair has RMA'd 2 HX750s for me...I'd try that.

What was wrong with your HX750s?

The problem is if I were to RMA my PSU, I need to buy a PSU to use while it is gone. By the time my HX750 comes back I will have 1 extra PSU that I dont need.

If you had a spare PSU stored away, wouldn't you say this is exactly the time when you would need it? Buying a second PSU now makes sense not only for this particular RMA, but for any future PSU related trouble shooting as well.

It doesn't need to be HX750 class, just something decent enough. Doesn't need to be high wattage either, just enough that you can use it for daily tasks etc.

That's exactly what I did. Bought an Antec Earthwatts 650W ps for a spare. Scored it on sale w/nice rebate (which came back quickly, btw) and ended up paying like $30 for the thing in the end. It sits, waiting for a chance to be used, but so far the Seasonics I've got in use have been tanks (knock on wood).

Did test it out when I got it, it worked, boxed it back up and it waits. Not a horrible investment as a backup.

I think I am gonna grab another quality PSU. I made a mistake when I bought this PSU. I didnt know this PSU is longer than standard ones and it is blocking the space of my bottom mount. So I cant install a 140mm fan there, only 120mm will fit. The new PSU wont be Corsair. I used to think Corsair's PSU are of good quality, not anymore.

Contact Corsair and explain that you can't be without your system. Good chance they will ship a replacement power supply out to you first.

I have read that Corsair is pretty good about doing that.

Long means low quality now?

I don't quite subscribe to that, even the highest quality units can have coil whine. A coil whining unit can be perfectly stable and reliable, it's just unfortunate (and thankfully can be replaced as a faulty unit). This is no different from getting a piece of hardware that is DOA. Just because it's DOA doesn't mean it's low quality (no matter what newegg users say), because even the best hardware in the world can be DOA.

No I didnt say that. Being long adds another for me to replace my PSU. Low quality cause it makes noise.

CALL Corsair Setup an ADVANCED RMA.. They secure it with a credit card. Then they ship the new one to you first. Install new one and ship old one back. Problem solved.
No extra Power supply needed.. and coil whine be gone.

That's a shame. Although 4 years 24/7 isn't so bad. I don't usually keep a PSU through an upgrade it it's older than 4 years.

Though coil whine isn't something that will damage a unit. It doesn't seem all that unrealistic that it started to get a little coil whine after 4 years of 25/7 use.

I found that the PSU cant sustain 750W anymore. When I pull 750W from the wall the PSU shuts off. So it can probably only provide 675W.

Also is receipt commonly needed for RMA? I never keep receipts that long.

If it shuts down at 750W from the wall, then it can't sustain 675W output. It probably can't sustain even 650W because running a PSU so close to shutting down isn't exactly "sustaining it".

Of course you need proof of purchase, otherwise how are they going to know whether the warranty has expired and whether you're the first owner? Usually, warranty isn't transferable to a second owner.

Where did you buy it from? Perhaps the place of purchase can provide you with a copy of the receipt. If you bought the unit online, you should have some email confirmation with the order number that you can give them to identify your order.

I tried. The retailer couldnt find my receipt.
But how come years ago when I sent back my HDDs(to Seagate and Toshiba) and video card(to Sapphire), they didnt ask for my receipt. I didnt register either.

Nobody here could explain what a company did or didn't allow you to do, but it's standard practice for the company to ask for some kind of proof of purchase.

Which retailer did you buy from?

You can't fault a company for your experience because you can't live without something.

Have you tried to call and get an advanced replacement?

They are not going to send back a PSU with coil whine on an RMA though. Corsair would never.

Did you buy it online by chance? You can often get a receipt directly from the e-tailer's website.

edit:never mind, I see this has been discussed.

Credit card statements? I'm surprised that corsair won't accept the serial number on the item by itself...

typed a full fact response, but deleted it.
not worth an infraction.

so for what it is worth.
that 4 y/o hx750 is warranty via serial number manufacturer date. corsair warranty rma is top notch. 1 day to receive and 1 day to ship. 2 days tops not including shipping time. plus you always have the option of advance replacement with overnight shipping.
