hahaha, the Canadian immigration guy at Niagra Falls looked at me like I was crazy when I asked him to stamp my gf's US passport, told me she didn't need one. I had to explain to him that she wanted a stamp in her passport since she didn't have any from other countries (depending on what country you land in in the EU, they really don't stamp anymore so the only one she had was from US and the Czech). He was kind of shaking his head while he stamped hers, probably thought we were a bunch of crazy stupid Americans

I know that when canadian immigration stamps an american passport it automatically means they only get 30 days in the country vs 6 months. That's why they don't like to do it.

Interesting. Though wtf would I be do in Canada for the extra 5months, collect maple syrup??? Couple days vacation is enough for me.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, while it sux, that's the way things are nowdays. No getting around the fact that not all Border Patrol/ Customs Agents are "sensitive", and many can be real dicks. Unfortunately, you look (to the average American redneck) like the folks who have carried out terrorist acts against our country. Fair or not, it's a fact. Doesn't make you a terrorist, but, doesn't change the fact that your appearance gets you extra attention. You acting beligerent only makes things worse for you. I live in a part of Kahleeforneeya that has a large Sikh population, as well as a large Assyrian population. Lots of those folks get hassled and harrassed beyond what is "fair", and there have been several instances of Sikhs being killed or beaten, just because some dumb-ass thinks they look like one-o-them-thar Ay-Rabs.
Top it off with not having the appropriate paperwork for entry, and you get a big PITA and hassle. Next time, bring your passport...

Oh you think US Customs is bad? Try Canadian Customs! I flew to Vancouver so that I could take a transit flight out of Canada and the people at customs were asking us all these stupid irrelevant questions. I got grilled for what .. to take a transit flight out of Canada?

Certainly, even in Europe, where you aren't supposed to need a passport if you're a citizen of a European country, I can promise that you won't get across a border without your own.

However, even in Europe there are asshole immigration officers. I remember going on holiday with my family and friends to France from Britain. We came by ferry, bringing the cars. When we got to France, immigration took an interest in one of my friends. He had recently visited Israel on business, so had an Israeli immigration stamp in the passport.

The officer didn't take kindly to this - He was immediately detained and then escorted onto the next ferry back to Britain. No phone call, nothing.

He was eventually able to get in a week later. He visited the passport office and got an emergency passport replacement. No israeli connection. No problem.

I find that if I cross the border (at Buffalo) with the family, things go pretty smoothly. If I cross the border alone (and haven't shaved in a week), I get searched and questioned a lot more. I don't really consider it harrassment though cause I see it from their point of view. Plus I have nothing to hide nor have I don't anything wrong so I'm not too worried.

I don't care if you had 18 forms of identification: you didn't have either of the two that are specifically stated as acceptable/required.

I'm sorry that you feel like you're being profiled, but you could be a white middle-aged man from Podunk, Iowa and they still wouldn't let you through just because you had the same address as someone else with the proper identification.
