Screw you Dish Network

My receiver which I've had for about 4 years is on it's last mile. Every now and then, all the channels are in black and white and the only way to rectify this is to leave the receiver off for 10 minutes and then turn it back on. So I'm looking at Dish's site to look for a new receiver (perhaps this time with DVR functions).

Then I see that for pretty much $41 / month, ($4 more a month than what I am currently paying), I can get a 4 Room Setup (currently only have a one room setup), two rooms can have DVR (DVR charge included in the $41/mo charge), and I get local channels.

For $4 a month, I might as well get in on this deal. I call and tell them I want this deal, they tell me they can't do it and not only that, but there is no possible way for me to get four televisions hooked up with any plan.

What they offered me was a $46/mo plan for 1 dual DVR and a newer receiver, but said they would require a 1 year commitment. Screw them. I've been a customer for four years and this is how they say thank you.

I'm going to just out-right cancel my account, screw them. Sell the equipment. Move to Comcast.

Sounds like most cell phone companies. Take care of new accounts, screw existing customers.

I've noticed that they put good deals in for new customers. I always wondered how you were treated after a couple of years. Now I guess I know. It is a shame that 'reataining' a customer isn't as sexy as getting one.

I too canceled my account because they treated me like that.

What kind of service do you have now?

Comcast is $45/month for standard cable, which is a rip, but oh well.

sounds like pretty much any dbs/cable provider.. they all require contract for their new sub deals (and they are ONLY FOR NEW SUBS).

I am getting one helluva deal from Comcast right now...

for 2 HD boxes (one with DVR), HBO and SHOWTIME plus High Speed Internet, I am paying $98 a month...I should have this price for another 10 months...

looking at my last bill, I am getting $50 in service discounts right now...

I found, that if you call their customer retention lines and threaten to cancel they can usually hook you up with a sweet deal. However, I have been with cable for awhile now, but DirectTV stills wants me back...calling and offering those four room deals. If they can herd you like sheep they do, and sometimes if they can't, they will offer you the world.

Um are you SURE that they said you would have to sign up for 1 year to get that piece of equipment? Last time I participated in that particular promotion (I believe the one they were offering was Dishin It Up) there was no commitment. If I ever disconnect the service I have to return the equipment since it is rented but no penalty if I decide to cancel.

The plan for new subscribers doesn't require a one year commitment. The plan she was basically "giving" me would require a one year commitment.

I had a friend who was moving and the deal was much better if he was a new subcriber as opposed to an exisitng customer so he called and told them he was going to cancle and why they hooked him right up.

I actually think that's pretty smart, considering most people sign up for promos. If you keep getting promo after promo, that'd probably be bad.

There needs to be a balance, though. I'm not going to stay if I feel like new customers are getting a better deal than me despite me being a faithful customer in good standing for years.
