As a general rule domestic dealerships have been ranked higher in satisfaction in regards to their service departments than foreign ones. Unfortunately, this might be from having more experience dealing with issues.

Ford did better overall than any other auto maker in JD Power's latest round up

?Fourteen Ford Motor Company models placed in the top three of their respective segments ? an achievement unmatched by any other corporation this year ? which is a testament to the improvement in quality for Ford Motor Company vehicle models and plants."

FORD & USA FTW!

I plan on buying a new f-150 in the near future (oh and I actually need a truck for work...)

I have an 2003 F-150 I bought new and it has never been in the shop other than for routine maintenance.

Just don't use the cruise control. :Q

It's the second advisory NHTSA has put out on this problem, which it describes as a "defective cruise control switch that could lead to a fire at any time, even while the vehicle is turned off, parked and unattended."

Kind of hard to use cruise control in the traffic infested hell that is Northern Virginia but when I have used it I have had no problems with it. The list you linked does not include my truck.

It's the first one listed: 1993 - 2004 Ford F150.

I'm with the OP. I've had a horrible experience at 4 of the 5 GM dealerships I've been to. The last one was so bad I contacted GM and they sent me a copy/paste response to work it out with the dealer. I was going to get a vette soon, but I'm reconsidering that.

It's an easy fix that takes them 15 minutes. They swap out the switch.

Tell that to 5 million other people... :Q
NHTSA spokeswoman Karen Aldana says it's being put out again because of the 12 million vehicles recalled in February, nearly 5 million still have not been brought in for repair.

You misspelled timing.

THis is going on everywhere, trust me. Same kind of thing is going on with me and KIA. You take in for something simple, they do not fix it properly and low and behold something else is now wrong. WHy? If under warranty, they can bill the crap out of the manufacturer.

Took the van in because of a loose ignition switch...claimed it could not be fixed and had to re-key whole car...except the glove box, because the put the wrong lock in the kit. Bullshit. During said repair, they noticed a leaky seal on the right axle. Ordered new one took it in for repair. Meanwhile after the lock and ignition repair, they locks do not work all the time, and the rear view mirror is acting crazy..they are supposed to both go down in reverse, now the drivers side goes up and down in park, using the fob..etc. So wife takes it in ...they shrug at the locks and order a new mirror....Wanna fucking bet the screw something up next time? THis is going on not just with GM, KIA, etc. They make money doing this crap. Seriously...it is a small representation of what the fuck is wrong with this country...only to do business is to fuck someone over. /RANT

If GM fails it will have much greater ramifications than a company dying. All of those employees will be out of work, all tier of suppliers will shut down and all of those employees will be out of work. Suppliers that serve GM+other auto manufacturers could shut down, putting their employees out of work as well as causing supply chain issues for the 'other manufacturers'. All of the businesses that are built up around the plants, the suppliers, etc. will probably shut down causing small business owners to go broke/bankrupt as well.

But screw those people, you're having car trouble.

Maybe it is time we restructure to remove such a volatile single point of failure.
