scrolling web...=high CPU usage..

Hey all.. my athlon idles at about 2-4 % but i was bored.. and opened up task manager... and scrolled like a mad man... CPU usage hit 74!

No biggie.. but just wondered if anyone else hit higher numbers...?

if i scroll by grabbing the bar to the right of the screen, cpu usage maxes out at 21. if i scroll using the scroll button on my mouse, the cpu usage hits 80.

USB mouse or PS2?

I hear USB mice go nuts when scrolling

you can turn off smooth scrolling in IE which should reduce your cpu usage.

My PC is always at 100% using S@H so I see no difference when I scroll, always at the 100% no matter what.

It's not an isolated IE problem, Opera does it as well.

Yeah, it's kinda wierd. I can hear my CPU fan spin faster when I scroll pages. I don't look at CPU usage because I don't really care so long as my system works, but the fan noise kinda bothers me. It's just dumb that scrolling should make the system work hard enough to make a difference.

Edit: PS/2 port for my Intellimouse Explorer.

Yeah mice do weird things... mine makes high frequency noises come out of the speakers ( you can only hear it with headphones on) when i use the wheel on it.

I have an Intillimouse (the cheapest one).
