I pulled two older Seagate drives from the scrap heap that I'm trying to use now. They are both 18 gig cheetah 36xl drives, along with an adaptec U160 card and both were being used as the primary drive in windows boxes previously.
Just working with one at the moment. I booted up xp pro, installed the drivers for the adaptec card, rebooted. If I look in the device manager, the seagate drive is listed there with my other hard drives and there are no red flags anywhere. However neither the explorer nor disk management list the drive?
