SCSI Raid Adapter Question

Looking at SCSI raid adapters for a web server. I need some help finding the right one, is there someplace like scsiraidadapterreview.com or something that I can use to get started.

Dont know of any publication like you mention.

You will need to decide whether you want Software RAID or Hardware RAID. The software RAID of choice is probably ATTO while good hardware RAID suppliers include AMI and Mylex.

What RAID level are you considering? RAID 1 mirroring or RAID 5 striping with parity?

hey SCSIRAID can ya help me out with my next rig? i want 2x cheetahs (15k, u160) in raid 0 and 1x cheetah (10k, u160) not in raid.

is it possible to do this with ONE scsi card only?
im also having 1x cdrw and 1x dvr+rw all scsi on this rig.

I'm thinking either RAID 5 or Raid 10 (0+1) with 4 drives. I'm trying to determine which would the best speed/security blend.

Are you doing mostly read workload?? If so RAID 5 gives the most storage (GB's). If you are doing a lot of writes then RAID 5 will hurt performance. RAID 0+1 will get the performance back but cost GB's. Correct choice depends on what you want the array to do for you.

Boot off the 10k drive and stripe the two 15k drives within the OS. This works well. A RAID card is only necessary if the Operating System doesn't support striping and/or you only have two drives and would like to boot from the array.

hmm thx for the help but what ya mean by striping?

also if i boot off the 10k it wont be as fast as bootin of the 15ks in raid 0 huh?
