Cost of outdated SCSI controller: $10.
Cost of shipping: $8.
The hours you'll spend tearing your hair out trying to get the
card working properly in your system: Priceless.

For $10 you can afford to toss in the dumpster. Which is good.
Because most likely that is what you will want to do. I have heard
horror stories about getting this card to work in normal systems
from people who are hardware gurus and who build and
service scsi/raid type systems for a living. This card is the Devil,
so I am told. It can be done, but you have to make the usual
deal with the Devil first. Never play cards with the Devil unless
you know what you're doing.

It can't get much cheaper, and I'm guessing you can probably Fleabay
it for almost what you paid. But your time...my son, your time cannot
be refunded so easily.

Yeh, if you get this card, be sure to get a sticker for the outside of your case that says "Devil Inside" becase this card is a POS if used with an non-IBM BIOS. The card is also a full sized card drawing 25W!

I am tempted to order this card to use on the old Acer Altos server board that I bought from a member, though I should probably wait until I get the motherboard and see if it even works

Very tempting, though do I realy want to deal with the headache it would be?

Can you use this card with only 1 scsi hard drive or do you have to use it in a raid with more then one harddrive?

I have never seen a Raid card that couldn't be used for just
one drive. Raid is just a superset of standard SCSI.

HOWEVER why would you bother? You are buying a can O' worms with
this card, and it's not like the card is all that great even
if you can get it working. For $20-25 and a little work you can
find decent standard Ultra SCSI cards that are easily compatible
with all common operating systems and motherboards. Trust me, one
of those cards is a much better investment than this thing if you
plan on using the card for just standard SCSI anyway.

I got the SCSI-160 LVD card (non-RAID) from Dell a while back. Works perfectly with no complications, but cost more $$$ and not RAID.

It's 68pin f/w, not 50pin. They are not that hard to get working if you download the cd image. I've got one running 2k on a 440LX board. Sure you can find better for more money, but that's the point here isn't it. A three channel scsi controller for $10 is a deal anyway you look at it. If you guys want to spend more money go ahead. I gonna buy a couple more right now! Nice post wildwildwes.
