I have some old SCSI drives that I need data off of. I figure the easiest way is to find a SCSI to USB cable. Are there any reliable ones out there that aren't really expensive? I found a few that were all $100+ and got bad reviews...

why not a pci card? they should be dirt cheap these days.

This, why go through a flaky mechanism when the original method is MUCH more cost effective and it will work.

And dear god that USB cable linked before is abysmally slow. If you have to get large amounts of data off, that would be a horrible way of doing it.

There are SCSI to IDE adapters, but they tend to be expensive too. As sdifox said, you can probably get a used SCSI card off of eBay and save money.

I have a crate of scsi product, if you need controller + cables or that scsi/ide adapter, u can have it for shipping cost - usps flat rate small/med box... if you need usb stuff, i cant help you.

most of my cards are adaptec controller, just need to know if you need 50/68 or the 80pin server types

Ah, SCSI. 15-ish years ago it was the Holy Grail to run a 15K RPM SCSI setup at home. I spent about 2 months pay back then for a controller card/cable/terminator/2 drives. I loaded Quake3 at the speed of...Like Really Fast Or Something. Compared to IDE, I was THE MAN, man!

About 4 months ago I sold that entire setup on EBay for $40 and I ate the shipping.

In the Enterprise world, SCSI still has a very large presence, but as those "almost bulletproof" drives die, there is no new stock to replace them; just NOS. And the price will go up and up...SCSI is dead.

I hope you can get your data off there...is it really that important? Either you're facing a lawsuit and need some historical data, or you've got some ex-girlfriend porn on there and you're feeling REALLY lonely.

The intarnetz can fix you up if it's the latter.

SCSI is definitely not dead. The Parallel SCSI physical interface is dead, but the SCSI protocol lives on in everything from SAS to FibreChannel to iSCSI.

OP, what you need somewhat depends on what exact drives you have. Post the models numbers here and we can help you out. SCSI Ultra320 PCI cards themselves are dirt cheap on Ebay. Hell, there are even Ultra320 PCIe cards out there for $20.

Hi, i don't suppose you would still have any of that stuff left would u? For the scsi. I'm in desperate need of a cheap way to make this 300gb hard drive work on my dell optiplex gx280. I bought it on ebay not knowing it wasn't a ide or sata and couldn't return it without taking a total loss of my money. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
