Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000 lowest RPM

I'm interested in this fan to use it for my processor cooler. If I were to plug it onto an ASUS P6T-DL motherboard what would be it's lowest RPM? I'm having a pritty cool case but temps are hitting 80's under full load. I want it to cool better but still maintain acceptable noise levels at idle.

EDIT: Yeah I know, it's with a "C" but can't edit the title anymore

u dont want to plug a 38mm fan in a motherboard header.

It will work fine. You can plug it in to a MB header. It idles around 1000 - 1100. Check out this thread.

0.6 Amps on a fan header... i would only do that on a premium board...

Trust me... u dont want a 120x38mm 3000RPM ultra kaze on the motherboard fan header.

Ive even burnt out cheap fan controllers even with that fan...

OP, buy a 15 dollar sunbeam rheobus if your gonna use that fan.

Thanks for the replies.

I was worried about the motherboard too. I was unaware though that the P6T-De Luxe was a cheap mobo. It's not top of the line alright but cheap makes me think about ASrock or something similar.

Would hooking it straight up to the 12V rail do the trick? I could only plug the yellow wire into the mobo header. These panels are not for me. I like my hardware to detect when temps go up and speed up the fan automaticly.

the thing tho is you dont want it blasting at full speed.

Its really loud... like insanely loud.

At least get a 7V reducer.

They run awesome at 5V and 7V is about as max as i would put them.

And when i say premium... i mean the real benching boards...

like a Classified, or a Rampage 2 Extreme, or a Giggy UD5 series and up.

Aye,

Sound like overkill. I have a 920 at 3.8 GHz and I just want it to be a bit cooler. I'm thinking about getting a UK 2000 which will prolly be more than sufficient. The fan I have now is so bad 88 cfm will be a huge improvement. If only I could get a decent PWM fan. They seem to be pritty sparse. And even if I do find one its cfm rating is not too good

I use those fans on my rad and I wouldn't even think about mounting them on a cpu. These fans are loud when they spool up. I run them at 1.6k for my wc loop and when I go higher they make some noise.

why not try a Gentle Typhoon from scythe instead of an ultra kaze?

They push a nice amount of air, and are quiet.

I found several posts here from you about how good they are. But I can't seem to get my hands on one over here in The Netherlands. Arctic Cooling F12 Pro is the best I can get with PWM. No Gentle Typhoons available here at all, with or without PWM

i like the F12, but its a bit weak...

And i am impartial with pwm fans.

You should be able to. Click on "Edit," then click on "Go Advanced."

Cheers, looks much better now.

About PWM:
It allows me to extensively adjust the fan profile with ASUS probe
I never liked the idea of slowing down fans by heating up a resistor.
I can seperately control the fan profiles from the processor and case fans.

I think I'm going S-Flex.

I'd get a Asaka Apache or Noiseblocker w/ PWM. Produces like a 38mm but is 25mm.

AC is poor for pressure.

GT is not PWM. Great fans but they don't support ramping. I got three on a rad @ 800 rpm and they are almost silent and move mucho air I just wish they didnt spin when not needed.

From what I've seen GT's can be both with or without PWM. Just the top model isn't available with PWM. But what am I talking anyways? Can't get either of them

If you find a GT with PWM, please let us know.

I have no idea where to get them but according to your own post in the "Highest CFM" thread they do exist

I just found a company that can send me a NoiseBlocker 2000 RPM w/ PWM. It's 23 Euro's but atleast it's better than the AC F12.

Ah. I can see that my post in the other thread did not quite say what I meant. I was referring to the 3000 rpm model mentioned in this pdf, which also notes "Depending on quantities, Nidec Servo can meet many of your requirements for customization, such as special connectors, sensors, variable speed specifications and other modifications. Please contact Nidec Servo for more information." So, if you want to order thousands of 3000 rpm PWM Gentle Typhoons, I'm sure they would make them. Perhaps Scythe will decide it wants them. I just wish they would order the 2150 rpm GT's.

Understood.

It's a pitty though but I think it will take a while for PWM fans to appear over a wider range. I don't know how other mobo's look but mine only has a PWM connection for the processor fan. There is a compatibility problem because PWM fans dont have RPM control when plugged onto a 3-pin connection and vice versa. You can't use a case fan for processor fan or vice versa.

Look into your BIOS. My Gigabyte boards allow me to control PWM fans either by PWM or voltage. After all, the PWM fan has the same three wires as other fans: positive, ground, and rpm sensor. The difference is in the fourth wire: the service signaller. I plug all sorts of voltage-only fans into my PWM connectors, and they all work. In fact, I plug in two-wire fans as well - the MB controls them nicely.

Basically, just try stuff out and see what works.

The documentation claims they will work but only at top rpm. That's what mine does aswell. It will work alright but it just runs 1200 RPM at all times.
