Anyone know what warranty these come with? I've found info on Seagate's web site that says 1-year and other info that says 3-years for the SATA versions.

She's a LOT quieter than my 160gb maxtor 8mb.

Comes with the power adapter and an sata cable!
Good deal for the buck.

Bring a printout to the b&m as the price in store is 169.99

What's the noise like when it's reading/writing/seeking (ie: not just spinning). This seems to be the biggest complaint about these seagate SATA drives.

I'm mirroring the two as we speak, and can't hear it from 3 feet away. Not near the noise level of some of my older drives or my case fans. They are in a Dell 400sc, so if I get close enough I can hear the constant head movement, but once the mirror is done I doubt I will even hear the normal writes. I can not hear any rotational noise, even with my ear against the case.

As to the printout, I did have it, and they pointed to the bottom that said regional prices may vary and said that meant they didn't have to honor it. I went across town and got it no problem, so I guess I need to call the regional manager and let him know what a prick the guy was being.

Thanks for the info - think I may have to pick one of these up tomorrow. I just ordered a new mobo with SATA on it so it's a good time to change hard drives.

Most places I read say this particular model is noisy during use. That's too bad. All my existing Barracuda IV drives are awesome with respect to noise.

I guess Seagate was starting to feel left out in the performance area so they decided to sacrifice low noise for better performance. The native SATA support is great. However, items preventing me from clamping onto this deal (1) noise (2) 1 year warranty.

I have about 5 Seagate drives but have had to ship 2 off to be replaced (between 1-3 years). I'd rather pay the extra $$ for a 3 year warranty. The current drive I'm eyeing is the new SATA drive by Hitachi. Of course, the only thing preventing me from getting that right now is um... price .

All Seagate SATA drives have a limited 1 year warranty. If you want this drive, purchase it with American Express card and extend its warranty by a year using AMEX warranty extension.

I do this with all my PC component purchases.

Picked one up at the Willowbrook Mall location in Houston yesterday. Last one they had. I called a few stores this morning, and even though the web site shows out of stock everywhere in Houston both the West Oaks and Galleria location claimed to have several on hand.

Anyone else care to comment on the noise/lack thereof?

Trick is to checkup during the early morning hours, usually they restock then. That's how I got two of these drives. (S. Bay Area, CA)

I just bought one of the new Antec True Blue power supplies after see at hot deal on them. I was a little peeved to find that 2 of of the molex leads had been replaced by the new SATA leads. I have to spring for 2 splitters to get everything connected!

Compusa's web sight now lists the drive for 169.99. 10 dollars more than yesterday. The unadvertised ad still has the same price. Has anyone confronted Compusa with this???

How early did you try? I really like to get into this deal, since I am building a new system.

Did you even bother to READ the advert at all? It's an UNADVERTISED special that REQUIRES you to print out the ad and take it in to get the sale price. Of course the website doesn't reflect the print ad price..........DUH!!!!!!!

Oh, I'm sorry, you're a n00b.......

Rebate is here, but you do get a printout at the register.

Price went up yesterday by $10... Website price now $99.99 instead of $89.99, retail up to $169.99 from $159.99 Glad I picked up mine on Weds. I did an instore pickup so didn't need the ad to get it, even though the box was labeled with the current $169 price. The CSR was none too happy since he had to override the IR up to $30 requiring a couple more waves of his big red wand (the horror).

Must have been TOO good of a deal, though, looking at the increase. Interesting to see if they'll honor the original ad (since it does say valid through 1/10).

I picked up two of these at the Houston CompUSA on westheimer and beltway 8 today.

They had them in the system for $169.99 so I showed them the ad printout that said it was for $159.99 and they adjusted the $20 instant rebate to 30.

The drive I got is very loud (compared to my baracudda IV 40gb and 80gb). It is easily heard across the room. My 40gb is completely silent, and the 80gb can be heard, but nowhere as easily as the 160gb. I would avoid this drive.

Celstar, are you saying that in your experience this drive is as quiet as the Barracuda IV series?

Interesting... Thought if you were looking for quiet operation, Seagate drives were the ones to look for.
