Methinks this deal be dead. Now reads "Call for Availability". Presumably OOS. Who knows if they'll get more in. If Fry's online deal history is any indicator, probably not. But there's always another deal from them just around the corner.

I'd feel better about those ratings if any of the users had mor then 1 rating, and the ratings didn't all have the exact same tone to them. I'm not saying they're plants...I'm just saying, they all appear to be transforming sunlight into energy through the process of photosynthesis.

I've one of these 160GB drives and I can tell you it's pretty quiet compared to the Maxtor 80s I own. Put it in a drive cage with rubber mounts and you'll barely be able to hear it.

Why does Frys sell some things, like hard drives, for so cheap on the internet? Usually stores will have a cheap item to entice people to come into the store to shop. Do you think they're doing the same thing with these, trying to entice people to shop around on their site?

No they are not. Not even where you thing that article says that. First the article is over a year old. Second they didn't have perpendicular drive on the market yet.

This is a .9. They are not bad but it is not a .10

Here is the link for the ECS motherboard from Fry's online for $39.71 + shipping.
ECS K8M890M-M Socket AM2 Motherboard

Shipping was around $7. Still not bad for a brand new retail motherboard. I am building a daily internet/home business system and this will work perfect.
The next Items I need now are dual channel DDR2 memory (of which I think Newegg is hard to beat) and a processor. On the processor I was going to use a Sempron 64 3000+ retail for $35 at Newegg but it is only single core and I was thinking since it isn't much more (around $75-$125+) for a good AMD dual core then I might as well buy the dual core. But finances are tough right now so I am going with the Sempron 64 for now and then I will upgrade later.

Heck yeah. I did a price search and the cheapest place that showed having it was Upgrade Nation at $67. So even with shipping $47 is $20 off and if you combine it with one of the hard drives it is an even better deal.
I know the $39.99 Seagate is dead but man I was looking at the $99.99 400GB 16MBcache Seagate and man that looked like a great deal.
I am gonna keep looking at Fry's.
I was thinking about building up 2-3 systems as cheap as I can just for the heck of it just on specials from Fry's and other places like this and see how long it takes me.

so basically what you are trying to tell us is you are going to stick with your 486 for quite a while?

Nice deal, but I guess I am old school as I wholeheartedly prefer PATA over SATA.

All the SATA cables I have are relatively stiff and springy and that teeny, tiny little SATA connector just begs to break.

I have installed one SATA drive and it was impossible to keep the MB connector from having tension on it.

Is there something about SATA that makes it that much better than PATA?
Help me climb on the SATA bandwagon.

Oh and that Perpendicular recording is very disturbing. It will be quite sometime before I buy a drive that uses that technology. I let the bleeding edgers ferret out all the issues first.

Over course, I have not and will not move to Vista anytime soon, so maybe I'm just getting old.
