Circuit City has a 200GB Seagate hard drive for 149.99 - 50.00 - 30.00 rebate = 69.99. Best Buy has it for 89.99. Print out Best Buy ad, take it to Circuit City, 110% pricematch guarantee (81.00+ tax)mail in the rebates. I got mine for 5.00 after rebate. This may have been posted before, but just wanted to let everyone know that it DOES work. I previously got a 160 Gb Seagate for -10.00 the exact same way.. 2 free hard drives in 2 months. What a deal!!

DEFINATE YMMV.

Most rebate places will not honor rebates if the receipt shows a price match.

Smokin' if they do, but be prepared to get a HD for a pathetic $81.00 + tax if it doesn't work.

A few more steps but more likely to get through the rebate house...

Buy the drive at Circuit City with no pricematch
Send in the rebates
Go back to Circuit City and do their 30 day low price guarantee pricematch
(I would go back at least 1 week, preferably 2 weeks after the sale expires to that the clerks won't remember there were rebates on the drive and play the "Well our price after rebate was cheaper so we can't pricematch game")

You should first buy the drive and get the receipts. Then come back later to do the price match. It is possible that the CC rebate might be rejected, but the $50 rebate should go through so it is still hot.

This has been posted before. I still have not had the time to pick it up. I hope they still have them.

CC rebates are based on reciepts. If you PM then they will "return " the drive and sell it back at the PM price. Hence the original reciept will show as product returned.

Make copies of the original reciept before you take back the drive for the price adjustment. What rebate wants the original reciept anyways...

I understand this with a physical receipt, but if CC is anything like Microcenter you can't do a PM without voiding the original receipt. I was trying to do something similar with a PM on an Abit X2, SLI motherboard that was bought the last day the rebate was good. The next day the price was 20% lower. The manger told me I could get the PM next day no problem, but they would have to buy back the board and issue another receipt at the lower price. The manager told me the rebate company, whoever they are, has access to these PM, return-type transactions. They would see the original transaction was void and my new transaction now missed the rebate time-frame. Doesn't matter that I sent in the original receipt. They will see it as returned.

If CC rebates are done with this kind of rebate-house receipt access, the deal would only be good if you PM'd within the rebate time-frame. These guys are playing hardball with the deal-seekers.

Seems to me that it is well within their right to enforce the terms of their offer. What you guys are attempting violates those terms, so nobody wants to hear you whine when it won't work.

the PM deal thing does work, although it does take work. I got my 160gb seagate for -$10.00 after PMing it.

I asked the CC guy why my rebate forms didnt print out, he told me that the rebates dont print out if it was a PM. I ignored him, went home printed out the rebates from their online site, sent it in and got my money.

Although i was willing to take this risk, so if it doesnt work o well.

OMFG your Circuit City did that?!!! WTF...

My Circuit City (last time there was a 300 GB for $55 AR), said that I cannot price match to the original price, even if I am not sending in the rebates, for the rebates makes it a "good" deal. Along with the fact they said they could only MATCH to the AR price, and no more...

Mofos...

I saw this on digg last week and bought the drive at CC. I went to bestbuy the next day to pick up a flyer and went to CC. They said that the CC price was cheaper then BB (after rebates) so they didn't honor the price match. It was my first time price matching so I said thanks and walked away.. do they match even if there's a rebate that's cheaper?

(Edit: oh, and the clerk went to check on the computer for the rebates. When i price match, do I need to bring the item along? or is the reciept + flyer good enough)

Thanks

Buy the drive at Circuit City with no pricematch
Prepare the rebates (make copies of receipt, get rebate forms, etc)
Go back to Circuit City and do their 30 day low price guarantee pricematch
GO back towards the end of the week when the store to PM too still has the drive on sale and do a PM.
If the PM works, send in the rebates using the copy of the receipt you made BEFORE doing the PM
If the PM doesn't work, just return the drive.

Edited the steps.

You shoudln't actually send in the rebates until after you get the PM. That way if they refuse to do the PM you can jsut return the drive.

And no, you can't wait a few weeks because Best Buy's price will go back up and then there will be nothing to PM it to.

Just bring back the receipt and say you want a PM. Don't mention rebates at all or anything and normally it will work fine.

Exactly how I would do it and did with the same deal.

Order online for instore pickup. If they write the PM on your email confirmation receipt, just re-print it.

The Circuit City email confirmation lists the rebates, whereas the online confirmation doesn't (it just lists that you paid $149.999 + tax). So print out the email confirmation to get your rebates, and print out the online confirmation to get the price match.

Probably best to do this a week after the rebate ends, so the in-store CC person will subtract the full $60 as part of the price match.

THe prbelm with this whole scheme is that if it works you can make crazy money off this rebate scam. Buy anything with a rebate, copy receipts and return item (PM is just like a return), then send in the receipts for MIR. If this works with PM then it would work with jsut a return and someone would be getting screwed. I'm pretty sure the MIR guys would have some way to verify the receipts. That one reason it take 4-6 weeks at the least to get the money back. They need to make sure it was not returned.
