Seagate 2TB USB 3.0 upgradeable drive $99.99 + tax after instant $40 coupon

I am looking for 2TB USB drive as a Christmas gift, and it looks like nobody sells it for same price, especially USB 3.0. J&R has WD 2TB drive USB 2.0 for $99, but currently OOS anyway. Fry's has similar drive for $109, and Amazon as well. Considering good Costco return policy, this deal is the best for now.

This drive is claimed working for PC and Mac.

Can USB3 logic be so expensive they wouldn't just offer the drive with USB 3, and let the customers w/o USB3 ports buy the PC adapter card? It's hard to imagine the USB3 circuit costsi more than the base-plate USB controller approach. [I'm inferring one changes the baseplate to switch from USB2 to USB3.]

probably not all that expensive per se, but then they would lose an opportunity to milk another $40 on a $100 drive for a converter kit.

that is ridiculous. i mean an external enclosure that is usb 3.0 isl ike $25-30.
