I am seeing the 300 online as 79 after the 50.00 rebate. 10.00 rebate is gone. When I was at Fry's yesterday, I tried to get them to give me the Maxtor 300gb SATA for the Outpost price, but they wern't going to do that...

That's because the $10 rebate was for 11/25/05 only.

only the 8mb seagate is in stock, not the 16mb. I know on paper it seems like a big difference, but is there a significant performance diff between the two?

I really want a large seagate drive for the cheap, and just afraid there won't be another deal on a 16mb one anytime soon (so might as well go with this deal on the 8mb).

mine's coming tommorow. I'm still annoyed my total price was $150 so after rebates I'm going to end up having paid $90. HOw efficient is seagate with their rebate process? Will i have to wait 4 months like plextor?

Yeah I jumped on this deal. I got my drive yesterday...

I did a simular rebate (seagate)...

Rebate took almost half a year to get it. I thought I would never get it. I did get it. But it TOOK so long that I vowed never to buy another slugate again, tho... With a a 5 year warranty and 300 gig for 69 bucks ... I couldn't resist.

So... expect a long ride for this rebate. The good thing is you can check the website for rebate status. They will even tell you if it shipped.

I guess it would be since..... it's looks better then the one that came in the shipping box. Send em both. Make lot's of coppies and prey your rebate is honerd and comes.

Good luck to us all.. I noticed on the 10 dollar rebate you have to make a copy of the UPC # .... Sheesh... Thinking to myself. Make all these copies... It is even worth the 10 bucks. I guess. Dunno. How much do you really value your time?

Most rebate forums (altho, I have not looked closly at this one) state that all rebates much be mailed in seperate envolopes or one rebate per entry... Dunno, I'd hate to lose out on 60 bucks...

the 300 GB PATA with 16mb buffer back in stock
link

Since its a retail kit, the model number isn't showing up in seagate's list of barracuda specs but it seems that only the 7200.9 series has a 16 mb cache (but don't quote me on this).

just for future reference if anyone comes across this thread, the 300GB pata w/ 16mb buffer is not a 7200.9 but in fact a 7200.8. I am pissed about that, although the drive is working fine. I wish seagate's website was more clear about their retail kit specs, because the only one listed in their baracuda specs with 16mb are the .9 series.

But it is back in stock with the same rebate if anyone wants a .8
