Factor in the shipping and it's only $14. For the bigger drive it'll probably be worth it for most.

Really. If you want a Maxtor, go to overstock.com. They are loaded with them since no one wants them.

Not true. Apples and oranges. Overstock is selling refurb drives.

The Maxtor is SATA II w/16mb buffer. The Seagate is SATA w/8mb.

You decide.

i'm not trying to crap, but i've heard anecdotal evidence that the 7200.8 isn't as reliable as the previous series. many recommend getting the 7200.9 series because it has one less platter.

any truth to that?

I actually heard the opposite, that the 7200.8 were more reliable than the 7200.9 series.

Hmmm, I'm going to have to look into this.

I got a 250GB 7200.8 no problems and can't hear a thing...then again I got it in a P180, but then again it sits on my desktop and it like 5 inches from my head and I still don't hear it unless I try really hard and put my ear up to it...

I will probably get another 250GB to make my system have a nice even 500GB

Well, not to crap on Seagate, but my 8 month old 7200.8 died on me a few days ago
At least it is under warranty...

The only HDD I had die in recent years has been a Seagate 200GB 7200.7 late last year. Seagate replaced it with a 300GB model. :Q

True, BUT they have also waived the shipping charges as well.

So I'm in for one @ $100 shipped.

Thanks OP

Heh, I posted this deal but didn't need it at the time. Now I need one and the price is at least $10 higher. Ah well.
