BTW, the rebate listed on the page is for the external model. I called a CSR and he e-mailed me the correct rebate. If anyone can host, let me know.
Thanks for confirming that they do indeed have a correct rebate form. Presumably they will post it when they get a chance.

I don't need more space, I don't need more space. Why did I click on this thread?!

I'm pretty close to being $170 poorer.

Sarcasm aside, great deal. Thanks!

Great drive. I have a 400 and 300 in my HTPC server and the 300 is definitely more quiet.

I still see $174 shipped...very very tempting.

I have four Seagate 7200.7 drives in my "previously-silent" computer and although they are silent when I only had one drive in there, with all four together they're starting to sound like one typical louder drive. This might be a good way of getting rid of two of the 160gb's though...

i have this drive....love it. It's quieter than my WD or maxtor. You can really hear the maxtor/WD when the HD is busy...lots of noises. But the seagate, it's a softer/lighter noise. Love it.

That's wierd. I cleared my temp internet files and cookies and still get $179 when I add it to my cart, but here it states $169 and that it ships free. I still get $179 and shipping of $4.83 when added to cart.

$169 after $50 rebate would make it ~ 40c/gb
the 160GB at $49 after rebate ain't too shabby either at approx 31c/gb

I have a 300gb seagate and it is great. I would pay the extra cost/gb just to have the convenience of the larger drive. Wish the 400gb seagates would drop in price/have rebates, damn fios is quickly pushing me towards 2tb.

Just picked one of these up at fry's. It's 129.99 after rebate there which is still a decent deal. Man this drive is heavy.

I've always had good experiences with Seagate rebates.

So Seagates are the brand to get for harddrives nowadays? Been out of the market for a little while...

A while ago HD manufacturers reduced their warranty coverage from 3 years to 1 year.
Seagate has notably gone 180° - recently uping their warranty to 5 years.

Dunno' about noise, Fluid Dynamic Bearings or other factors - ATA100 vs 133; 8MB vs. 16MB buffer ...

But, in practical reality, isn't a 5 year (vs 1 yr) warranty worth a lot more than all that other stuff, put together?
(Assuming the other more major factors (7200 RPM, IDE, ...) are equal? )

On the other hand, I replace my drives every 2-3 years with bigger ones as the manufacturers release them. The old drives get relegated to older computers or given to friends. So I don't really need a 5-year warranty.

Hmm I can either go for 300GB at 40 cents a pop or the 160GB for around 32 cents a pop...anyone want to reccomend which one to go for since I only have one day to get one?

go 300gb - if you do any kind of digital multi-media stuff (audio, photo, video) you'll need it!
