Grabbed one for $95. Need to go dual boot with Ubuntu and migrating data is going to be one phenomenal pain without some major drive space...this is going to be my main system drive, with a 80G drive running XP as backup.

And, someday, I'm going to grab a couple more of these and set up redundant + performance RAID...but that's wistful thinking at this point.

Is the differnce from SATA 1.5Gb/s to SATA 3Gb/s noticable?
Even worth bothering?

In real world performance, I have not noticed much (on other systems I've worked with) for single drives. However, you probably would notice the difference if running two or more drives as the 1.5 / 3.0 limit is the total speed for the drives (combined).

Edit: That is if your motherboard supports 3.0 / SataII.

Just my experience anyway. HTH!

Just ordered a pair of these: 250 GB Seagate 16MB Perpendicular

Should make a very nice raid 0 for < $150 shipped..... less than a single 74GB Raptor....love the 5 year warranty on the Seagate too :thumbsup:

Well, I'd rather have the extra $30-$40 in my pocket. The raid 0 will boot and co-exist with a Raptor 74 GB (which will contain the page file) I think I'll like it.......
