Theres also a rebate?

Sucks about the PATA though... SATA would make this even better

Its a good price for 5year warranty Seagate 400GB, this is a retail kit so I'm assuming the warranty is standard 5 years, the outpost page doesnt say.

The lowest SATA Seagate 400GB I could find is at some random pricegrabber retailer for $135/free shipping. 8MB cache though, and SATA1 I believe.

Also, is this possibly 7200.10?

According to the serial ST3400632A-RK on the product page this is a '7200.7 Plus'

7200.7, 7200.8, 7200.9, 7200.10(Perpendicular)

I believe the early 7200.8's had some reliability problems and they are the Seagates to avoid, but I'm not totally clear on what happened there. Seagate is generally high quality for all their products. Some people are skeptical of 7200.10s because its the first drive with Perpendicular recording technology to hit the market, they assume the first design must have some bugs to work out, maybe they are waiting for second gen Perpendicular drives...

Kwint Sommer stated: If it's a 7200.10 or has an additional rebate this would be one hot deal. Otherwise PATA kills it.

don't want to get into a pi--ing contest, but how can 25 cents a gig with free shipping with a 5 year warranty be bad just because its not the '10 or not SATA?

in the past, people have received 7200.9 and 7200.10 drives inside the box.

PATA isn't that much slower than SATA but many 975 based motherboards only have 1 PATA channel which is generally used for optical drives and none have more than 2 while most support 6-8 SATA drives thus SATA is a must if you run more than 2 drives or like to constantly add storage. It's a good deal, just not HOT! if it were a bit newer either in transfer type or recording method it would be an awesome deal and if money is your only concern poke around on ebay and you can get hard drives for $.20 per Gb. My local Best Buy has $.25 drives every few months, it's nothing that great.

Holy Super Service Batman! I ordered this drive on Saturday night and when I came home from work today (Monday), my brand new retail box 400GB hard drive was here! I thought Newegg was fast but this deal was just smokin' all the way around! Now i just have to figure out what I'm gonna do with all this storage.

EDIT: Doh! I got the SATA version. Sorry, wrong thread.

If you're just using a hdd for storage then sata/pata, 16mb/8mb really doesn't make a difference. Now, if you've got a fetish for those little cables that easily come loose... And yes, I have finally made the move to sata, but still have ten hdds for storage. In the future I will slowly migrate existing data to sata drives. For now, there is no hurry.

do they make PATA 7200.10 with perpendicular tech??? thought it was only SATA and only the 320/750 are the main supply on the market though specs say 200,250,320,400,500,750 should be available.

people get either 7200.9 or 7200.10 drives in the box.

the .10 drives are perpendicular while the .9's are not.

I'm not sure why people seem to think that Seagate doesn't make perpendicular PATA drives, but they do. You can get the 750GB model in PATA. Whether the drive uses perpendicular recording or not has nothing to do with the interface.

i think most know they have nothing to do with each other, its that i wasnt sure if they wanted the 10 series to start being only SATA.
